Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Laid off in Bartlesville

Yesterday ended my career at ConocoPhillips. I was able to say goodbye to friends and coworkers and leave with dignity. I was a ranked 1 and 2 employee my whole career (15+ years) until the last two years where I received 3s. I worked hard, was dependable, innovative and well respected. It hurt like hell to be laid off, but I woke up this morning stress free and positive. This is their loss, not mine and I will find a better job. I refuse to be bitter because they just aren't worth it.

The company is sinking and I'm glad I'm no longer there to see it happen. Good luck to those who have also lost their jobs, and good luck to those who still work there, you're going to need it.

When one door closes another door opens everyone in this industry needs to know this happens on a cyclical basis and everyone needs Plan B and Plan C options always on a regular basis with this industry so take care but beware !

In response to Anonymous 179046: I don't blame it on Obama.... I blame it on the managers who try to emulate Obama - is that you?

if you don't know how it works, you should. if you are constantly being rated a 1 or a 2 and then all of a sudden become a 3 it means that the company thinks it is paying you too much and needs to lower your ranking to justify the layoff. It was determined who was going to be laid off and the rankings were made to justify it. Anyone who has received a lower ranking than in the past should be worried

Oh yes blame it on Obama. Go look in the mirror if you want to know who to blame.

Yes, it was very sad seeing so many quality people who actually cared about the direction of the company get laid off. It was also surprising to see so few at the management level let go since they were the ones that held people back so much and couldn't or wouldn't make a decision even when based on solid evidence and work. If you could just get rid of them as the impediments to advancing the company, all concerned would be better off. I think almost all of them have learned way too much from Obama in that if you don't make a decision, then you can't be held accountable when things fail; instead of taking the philosophy that if this works, think how much better the company will be and how great we all will look. Everyone keep your chins up and hold your heads high. Other companies out there are looking for quality people like you who are looking for the opportunity to excel and make everyone around you better for it.

Just laid off and still not sure if I'm relieved or disappointed. Hated axe over my head but hated politics more. Tip of this hat to all the survivors out there. Good luck, round three playoffs just around the corner and only the best players win.

I was actually hoping for a layoff. I am still employed and still dealing with the everyday BS. I have decided I will make my own severance by starting s new job just after I receive my vacation at the beginning of the year. Maybe I will get lucky and start just after vcip, but who knows if we will even see that this year.

The company is not sinking, now that it is throwing weight overboard.

Same here. Better job in the same industry much less stress and better benefits and pay. Best thing ConocoPhillips ever did for me was lay me off.

Good luck to you. Great attitude! I was laid off last week and while I was not happy about it when it happened, I'm much happier this week. Like you said, less stress. I will find another job in time. Economy is tough right now and job market is competitive, but there are still jobs to be had.

A few COP friends were laid off this week and last. Hard to see the company I used to work for go down so quickly. Hard to see friends and old coworkers lives turned upside down. I hope you all can find other opportunities quickly!

They relieved me 6 years ago, and I have been grateful ever since. The 200,000 in severance did not hurt either, plus I got the pension at the best time(worth 200,000 more than it would have been a quarter later). All I can say is, Thanks COP!!!!

PS I also have a better job with more $$$.....
