Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

if I am called by HR/Manager for the meeting of layoff and could not come back to the office, how can i get my purse with Driver License in it?

I am ready to be laid off and clean up my office completely.

question is if I can come back to my office and take my cell phone and purse (driver license in it) ?

or in any meeting during whole OCT, we all should carry personal cell phone and handbag? I don't know which meeting is real business meeting, which one is lay off meeting.....

like one post said, 10% cut is torturing 100% people...

in fact, we are told more than 50% layoff...

I was part of the layoffs in April (Houston office). In Houston, people knew that if you got a call from your mgr asking you to come to a conference room, that was it. I took my purse with me, knowing that I wouldn't be able to come back to my desk. Weeks before I had already packed up my personal belongings just in case; but I later got a package in the mail with stuff that I had inadvertently left behind.

I was part of the layoffs earlier this year. My manager was supposed to bring me my jacket and purse, but he got the time mixed up. So I sat in the room for a long time with a complete stranger waiting for things to be dropped off. She finally just escorted me to my desk so that I could grab a few things that I'd need right away (keys, wallet, personal phone, etc.) and hand over my company property. Then I was escorted out of the building and put into a taxi. I came back after hours a week later to pack up anything else from the desk.

March layoffs in my BU - people were allowed to return to their desk and get their stuff and say goodbye. But I've also heard of the cases where people are escorted out of the building. Seems being escorted out of the building is for single layoffs, where being allowed to gather your stuff and take your time is for higher volume and more piblicized group layoffs

We were told that they will be much more lax this time and allow those who are let go to return to their offices to gather their things and say their goodbyes (if desired).

When I was called, the caller ID said "conference room." I asked the caller if I should bring my purse. She said it would probably be a good idea. I took my bag with my personal electronics with me, because NO ONE was being allowed back in. If you carpool, they provide a ride back to your home - even to Ponca.

Have a Go Bag ready.

Prepare your office by removing all personal affects.

Write a script that will send "that" email if you don't sign back onto your laptop within a couple of hours.

Depends on employee and group. I know of some who were not escorted out when they were called to conference room, just told they were being laid off but would continue to work through a certain date. I'd still take any personal items with me if I got call from a manager to meet in conference room

I would suggest the layoff fanny-pack.

Get a gelcap and fill it with syrup of ipecac and keep it on you. If you get called into the meeting, secretly put it in your mouth and just keep it there. If you get the axe, bite down on the gelcap.

The human resources representative will escort you to the exit but not via the office. The manager will return to the office to collect those items required for the employee to travel home without issues. Obviously not a good situation for those in a car pool. Regardless the employee will not have the opportunity to return to the office after the trip to the conference room. Once you are called to the conference room employment ceases.

Just be prepared, they wont take your stuff away, you would be under escort more than likely. I am a field person , all my ducks will be in a row prior to any meetings :) I was a little spooked at the beginning, but after talking to a financial consultant, Im spooked they wont pick me now :P This reminds me of the Mid 80's , all over again....

I think you'll know. If manager calls and ask you to meet him/her in conference room, take your purse, keys and cell phone
