Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

2015 Layoffs at Teradata

Does anyone have info on potential reorg and layoffs that might be happening later in Q3 2015 at Teradata? I heard conflicting stories, some of my friends still work there, I left in 2011 but still keep track of what's happening with this once great company. You'll see many rumors on the web, so please make sure you are very careful about what you perceive as right or wrong

If you are in California technically Teradata does not have to give any severance. HP, IBM and Cisco gave only 4 weeks to employees that were with them for 25 years.

"There is no legal requirement under California law that employers provide severance pay to an employee upon termination of employment."

But the company is kind enough to give severance based on grades. They did the math and figured it's more cost effective to offer grade based severance. If you are worried about being cut I suggest you look for another job before it happens.

Well what about all of us who have been here for 25 years and will get screwed by this new policy?

They changed the policy because many senior grade employees were hired recently and with the old package they would have received minimum severance.

From today on wards grade based severance policy is in place. It will not be based on years of service.

"When does the new grade based severance policy take place? Will those laid off in the first quarter get the existing severance or the new severance?"

The severance package will be grade and state based from 2016.

If you were laid off this month -- December of 2016 -- would your severance be time-employed based or grade based? Also, does Teradata ever bring back people as, say Lexis-Nexis in known for doing here in Dayton, in what they call smart-sizing?

I can tell you that HR management and marketing management are not happy with this thread.

Bully for them.

If they are not going to share information, people are going to find a way around for sure. No one wants to do this, i don't think people have an option.

Happy New Year to everyone. Speaking anonymously from HR I can tell you that HR management and marketing management are not happy with this thread. But keep expressing yourselves to inform our colleagues of what is to come as management is keeping things secret. Hopefully this will encourage our management to be more transparent with us.

Unfortunately the first quarter will be brutal. As the new regional organizations are structured a lot of restructuring will occur. The severance package will be grade based, and will also depend on the State you live in. In some States the laws do not require a severance payout so if you are in one of those States unfortunately you will be left to dry.

From what I know, and this information is 100% valid and correct some HR roles will be made redundant along with some senior professional services management roles i.e. Partners, Sales Directors, Account Execs (grades 12, 13, 14 and 15). The regional VP’s have already reached out to their new first line of management and are preparing a list of people that they want to keep. The ones that are not on the list will be let go. Of course as always, Teradata is very discrete about its layoffs, and the layoffs will be on a rolling basis. A single round will be within the threshold of making a public announcement.

Thank you. This will really help us plan to evolve for the next skillet needed in the market. Please suggest what are the skills we need to have specifically those who shift to Edw. We don't want to be left behind. Please discuss whats gonna be next big thing.

The new severance package is true. From now until the end of Q1 you'll get the 'better' package (years of srv vs. grade). After Q1 everyone the package is entirely grade based; years of service no longer used at all.

Oh I hope that new severance package is not true. As a level 12 with 26 years of service my package would go from 26 weeks to 8 weeks. Kohler say it isn't so!!

It's pretty sad that this random thread gives more info about the company than the company itself. Very telling.

I was laid off from Teradata right before Christmas and I received a week severance for every year of service. However, I also received a copy of the 2016 severance package and Teradata seems to be switching from a week for every year of service to a new severance model based upon your job grade. grade 0-8 = 4weeks, 9-10 =6 weeks, 11-12 = 8 weeks, 13 = 12 weeks, 14 = 16 weeks 15+ = 26 weeks.

Good Luck everyone!

If the rumors about Bain & Co are true, one the services that they provide is M&A. If Teradata decided to use Bain & Co's M&A why would they need their own. And if they were going to use Bain & Co's M&A they probably have their own ideas on right sizing Teradata so as to make Teradata attractive.

Why would they layoff Dayton M & A people if they are planning on selling the company or parts of it? They apparently let go the dirctor of M & A there. Any news on any others in that department laid off?

@B8mLN8E-3Xmpa First of all, this guy repeatedly posting the list of VP names has a lot of opinions but so far no information. It would appear you work at the company and get the internal emails, but it appears that's all you have to go on. What specifically about these people's individual work do you take issue with?

Regarding layoffs, I have seem a number of interestingly timed retirement announcements lately, but those look like buyout or early retirement offers. I have not heard of RIF since the summer.

If they can pull off a viable Big Data offering, we have a good shot at continued growth. We still have the best EDW in the business. What will define our future is how well we do in meeting the new requirements for virtualization, EHL (using Hadoop for landing and ETL), and finding traction with a bid data services offering. This company is heartily profitable, we just are at a crossroads that will require us to shift to stay that way. The real question is does the leadership have what it takes to navigate these changing times, and I'm giving them 6 months to see. The company has some of the best and most experienced EDW consultants in the business, but they need to embrace rising stars who are connected to the new generation of thought leaders.

I am particularly interested in knowing how many people are intended to be laid off as part of this "trimming" effort. There is legislation that stipulates employers must notify employees about layoffs, if the layoffs fit a specific criteria. From what I have gathered on this panel alone it seems like the company is paddling in that direction, but without knowing the facts or details it is just a theory. It seems like a sneaky thing to do, as this is obviously no small riff and is it shaking up many folks in the comapny. A little communication goes a long way.

Some captains would rather go down with their ship, and so would some of the crew if they believed there was the slighest opportunity to turn things around . But if the captain isn't forthcoming with the current state of affairs it's hard for anyone to find purpose to stick around. And as someone already mentioned, it might just be better to leave on your own terms. There is nothing more disheartening than when the blind lead the blind, and you are a part of it.

Its going to be the old boys club, the same dummies that steered us into this mess. Expect four of these five to be area VPs "Ben Gillis, Davaid Kuenzel, Ephraim Flores, Eugene Sullivan and Ralph Vossmeyer". Ephraim Flores is an idiot and cannot think that we have to strategize our business not just for this quarter but for the future. Ralph Vossmeyes is has no clue where our customers are at and what they are looking for. The others are worst.

These guys will never accept their own shortcomings and will blame team members. They will fire and layoff staff that they do not get along with even though they are top performers. If these guys do becomes area VPs I recommend that you guys should look elsewhere and leave the company. Why stay with Teradata when there is no future.

I've seen very little talk about how many contractors were let go or how many are still working. I've heard of at least one that was working on main line DB software that had their contract cancelled.

CIM & RTIM resources "welcomed back" to TDA are still being considered for RIF - more to come before Jan 1st. The communication has been atrocious. Management openly thanking themselves for a job well done too.

Get another job and leave on your own terms. You will end up better off with a better job and salary and have an upper hand when you move on your own terms. Best of luck.

So, how many people are going to fill out the surveys to help 'get the mojo back'?

Isn't this like training foreign workers at Disney that are taking your job? And, more than that, what makes TD management think they will listen this time since they have failed to listen ever.
