Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Were the initial layoffs much larger than first advertised for Schlumberger as well.

As an employee from another service company. We have had layoffs that were much larger than were advertised. Now Schlumberger says they are gonna increase the size of the layoffs, were they initially not that deep like other service companies? Were they really only 9000 in the first quarter? Thoughts?

Those public figures may not count people forced into early retirement

and also those who are asked to take leave-of-absence on pay cuts :-( !

My husband was one of the first 9,000 to be laid off.

Anonymous 92124 is correct. The additional 11,000 cuts have already occurred during Q1. This is not to say that more won't happen during Q2, though.

The 9000 cuts were done in Q4. The 11000 cuts were done in Q1. They won't tell you about the Q2 cuts until the Q2 earnings release. All these "announcements" tell you is what they have already done not what they are going to do. The media seems to miss the part about them saying this is what they did in the quarter not what they are going to do next quarter.

I think the majority of these layoffs are already done or underway

So Schlumberger only did layoff 9000 employees in the first round? Because the Red guys laid off way more than announced. Like did most districts lose 30 to 60%, or outright shutdown in the first round.

The initial announcements of the number of layoffs coming was just that...initial. I think most people working in the patch for the past 20 yrs. knew the layoffs would continue through the year and get more intense as contracts finished up and were not going to be renewed.
