1000's of contractors stay, 1000's of employees located in India stay? Why would you not replace the contractors with the TM's you planned to layoff?

Target team members in mpls are advocate of contractor. They are puppets to them and they like it. End result puppets remain for the show, you get axed.
I am so tired of companies outsourcing everything. It is about time we start reinvesting back into America. I would take a lower wage if I knew it would prevent more outsourcing. I understand having a diverse in every aspect company and having global team members is very important in so many ways. I don't get the point of firing large numbers of extremely skilled workers who have so much talent and loyalty to the company and keep the people who have no knowledge of what Target is or have ever stood for. I have worked with many contractors who don't care if they work for Target today or not. They can switch companies without any care in the world. They cannot wait to get from India to the USA on a project. Unfortunately they switch projects so much, they do not have a true understanding of what is needed of them and seem to put on band aids on top of band aids of our systems. This is not their fault. If we hire people to Target who are invested as an actual employee, we would see people who care and not want to fail. If I knew I was going to be around for a couple years on one project and maybe picked up for another project in a couple more, I would not want to spend all of my time deep diving and getting into the weeds. I would do high level what is asked of me too. I do know they spend a ridiculous amount of time of the day on the project , but things could be easier if they knew the actual system they were working on too or not spending ten minutes every hour in line getting coffee at Starbucks.
... and payroll is an expense, Joe.
contractors are an expense. employees are payroll. different accounting buckets.
It proves that the productivity and success from contractors far outweighed the current workforce equivalent at Target. If Target had such a great and innovative workforce, it wouldn't need contractors !!!!!!!!!!!!
I was let go and replaced with a contractor. The layoff was heartless. If they would have called me back during the inactive time, it would have been ugly. Everyone, dont answer your phone if they try to call you. Call in sick lol!
While the layed off TMs get months of benefits and payments with out working, the contractors are working hard up the pieces. A contractor is a self employed individual. CEO, cook, bottle washer and taxpayer. They provide their own health insurance at $500 - $1000 a month per individual not family wth a deductible in the thousands. They don't get PTO. Every day is a potential layoff day with NO buy out package. They have to look at each project as their last. they MUST be deadline-driven because their BUSINESS depends on it....late nights, weekends, holidays and sickness. Target gets every penny's worth from most contractors and tosses them to the curb when plans change. I believe when the projects they are working on now are finished, they will not be called back.
If it makes you feel better, at least 15 or more contractors were dismissed in marketing today. It's gonna be a riot because the actual employees can't handle the workload to save their lives so they depended heavily on the contractors. WTG Target!
If they had done this, the 1000 TMs who are asked to take on a different role will complain and eventually leave. That's assuming they have the right skills to replace all these contractors.

You should all be CEO. You all have the right answers.
... and the contractors have seen the rest of the industry. Most Target employees have only seen Target.
Mirror Mirror on the wall... who is the fairest of them all? The contractor mirror says, "Not You !!"
The cost less. There is less of a commitment to them, they can be gone tomorrow with one word, no notice, no corrective action.
I couldn't agree more. Loyalty and treating people with respect is antiquated.
The contractors receive no benefits.
