Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Laid off in Nisku AB

Engineer in Nisku AB in their bits division. Had a few layoffs, but there was no indication from manager or higher ups if I should start looking for new jobs with upcoming layoffs. Then got laid off this morning. Had just come off Paternity leave with first new baby and got my SLP with "Meets Expectations" review. Was told Canade engineering group for bits ran much leaner compared to anywhere else, and that we produce more work than anywhere else. Heartless layoff when I just had my first baby and only worked for SLB for 6 months and had not worked otherwise since end of 2013

Hey Nisku original poster here. It was actually a very rare slb position that was very family friendly, which really is the only reason I took it in the first place. Office based, 8-5, 5days a week with field visits as needed, usually once or twice a month. It was in their bits division, not something like wireline, cementing, or fracking

Hate to sound like an ass but as a new parent SLB would not be the best fit. SLB takes everything away from man including family life. I will never get the first 3 years of my sons life back to witness. I missed every christmas and 2 birthdays. Consider this a blessing in disguise.

I am sorry you were laid off right after a new baby. My husband was laid off only 7 mos after he started. The recruiter said it was a "career" path. What a lie...we have 6 children and lots of debt. Soul or no soul, we needed the income to support our family. I hope business picks up soon again.

They did you a favor, at least you still have your soul. How many have traded theirs in? It will be tough bit you will survive. I got laid off in Houston after more than 20 years of good appraisals. They're meaningless. Stay away from this business, you'll live longer. Don't be like the other jackals that will be johnny on the spot when the business picks back up. Fool me once shame on you, twice...

Advise your friends to stay away as well. Move on with your life, at least you know now who not to trust and who not to work for.

Humans and animals have hearts. Businesses do not have hearts. Machines do not have hearts. Plants do not have hearts. End of story.
