Thread regarding L-3 Communications Holdings Inc. layoffs

4-10 shift will be gone in a couple months for everyone. Don't cry it's in the best interest for the company.

Will it be five 8 hour days? Or will it be four 9 hour days + 1/2 day on Friday?

What exactly is there to "tune into"? My boss has told me no more layoffs so many times and usually right before a layoff. Then my boss fakes sincerity and tells me she was lied to by her boss. We know he lied because his wife has an office on the 3rd floor. Stay tuned for more lies and misdirection.....

This is a hilarious thread. The most recent posting that suggests that "everyone doesn't tune out" at 2 PM at CSW is the most hilarious. That dude needs a reality check, because we CSW workers never really tune in to begin with. Get rid of the 4-10. It's as ridiculous as this company.

@Captain Obvious

Exactly which study shows humans can only stay engaged for 6 hours a day? Sounds like a BS Stat, from an at home business management course. Engagement comes from doing meaningful, worthwhile work that offers a sense of accomplishment and possibility of return on personal investment. I know plenty of entrepreneurs that put in more that 10 a day. Just because you check out at 2:00, doesn't mean everyone does.

Frankly, I think the 4-10 is socialism (masked as capitalism). Per today's Salt Lake Tribune, Utah is the lowest employee engagement in the country. Part of the reason is the prevalence of nepotism (at company's like L-3) which discourages hard-work and destroys a meritocracy, and part of the reason are the privileges employees are granted in terms of work hours. The 4-10 promotes poor work ethic by excluding one day a week from the work week. Studies show that human beings can only stay truly engaged at work for about 6 hours a day. This means those other 4 (or 2 hours, respectively) are spent in disengagement. On a 4-10 schedule, that means employees are engaged only 24 hours a week. It's better to bring employees back with a fresh mind for an extra day during the work week (Friday), and get those extra 6 hours of engagement.

To you dumb bastards who equate 4-10's with socialism-get a life. 40 hours is 40 hours. Do you understand that? If a company provides a benefit, then people are going to take it. Their lives get structured around that schedule and to take it away on a whim is wrong. Why don't you idiots give up your medical benefits, after all they are costing the company money! Give up your sick and vacation time-prove you are real ass kissers and corporate slave drones. In fact just stay in your cubicles 365 days a year because you have no life outside of work.

Actually, the rumor I heard is they're replacing the 4-10 with the 5-16 (Wall Street hours). Now you'll be expected to be at your desk promptly by 5:00 AM and remain there until 9 PM. This has been confirmed by numerous Sicilians running the company who were quoted as saying, "If he don't work the new 16s, he swims with the fishes....now get outta here....." Pass the pomade and the Armani cuff links. Time to represent....

There used to be a small number of folks at CSE that did 4-10 but I don't know of anyone doing it anymore. There was talk of getting rid of 9/80 but too many people noticed that the Engineering office was abandoned most off-Fridays. Actually I do know one person working 4-10 and he is an Engineering manager. Supposed he works from home on Fridays.

Notice that you rather lose your pride than the 4/10-shift. The day off was one of the causes of our problems. Good gor bad for the customer. By da way. Lori E IS OUT THE DOOR. THE WICKED WITCH IS FALLING.

@81721 - Vladimir Putin, is that you? The 4-10 schedule is for "me-first" millennial liberals who drive around with Obama bumper-stickers, chanting "yes we can!" No you can't....

Working 4-10 is working for a living! It is not "I'm too special to work for a living". 9-5 is great too. But CSE will use it to do something weird to try to pressure free time from employees and then ding them on their reviews for "not being able to get the job done without putting in free OT". And them L-3 will show ethics videos about properly recording their time for a contract.

It's pretty pathetic that the only thing keeping people at a bad company is the 4-10 schedule. Just goes to show you how many people love the pseudo-socialist, everyone-gets-a-trophy, I'm too special to work for a living, country we live in right now. Get a real job, with a real 9-5, Monday-Friday schedule you communists...!

This information is incorrect. Calendars have already been made up and it's Mid-March already. They would of told you in December if it was going away. However, it could change for the next year (2016).

Then I will be gone also. It's in my best interest. Take your 'best interest of the company' bullshit and shove it.

So what will it be: 8 hours per day? or 9 hours M-Thurs plus a short Friday? 8 hours a day is better. But they will probably do the 9 hours*4 + short Friday in hopes to pressure employees of free time on Friday instead of "leaving early".

It is best because Management has declared it. Stop whining, get back to work. PS if you want to work five tens that is fine with us.
