Losing your job is one of the most stressful and life-altering events anyone can experience. Mortgages, car payments, student loan payments, medical bills, medical insurance, retirement savings, family expenses . . . it's all tied directly into being employed. Unless you're straight up retarded, you can't possibly believe that everyone will be "just fine" because that's how life works in storybooks, not in real life.
Nobody is gonna immediately die as a result of being laid off from Target, but the personal disruption is going to be very significant. Pretending otherwise doesn't make you brave or strong, it just makes you look stupid.
