Wow 182, never seen anyone defend coffee statuses so aggressively! Tough to accept but you are the target problem.

129 is delirious. Most likely Merch or HR. GTKY, Coffee, etc are giant time sucks. Ask an engineer the last time they did something like that. Merch uses those as ways to make their calendar look full and productive. The GSD attitude is apparent across some teams. 90% of those meetings end in shoulder shrugging or end at a stalemate. Get rid of those meetings, communicate over Lync and you'll get things done without having to go to Caribou.

I mean, try turning down a coffee or a GTKY. Pretty much impossible. The reason some people are so bitter is that no one is reaching out for their insight through these means. Everyone knows that you're a walking hard-on and it's pathetic.

76049 - when you read 129's post, and you get that feeling in your gut that says "wow that sounds like some resource-wasting self important bullsh-t", trust your intuition because you're right. What usually happens is people sit around leaning back in their chairs gossipping about who didn't deserve their promotion, or they pump each other up using galactically ridiculous language about "driving for results", "embracing the leadership culture", and other HR-manufactured nonsense. It's the very reason this company is fat and arrogant...and it's the reason this company is simultaneously an engaging place with a proud history and huge potential....but also a disturbing perverse culture that has gone off the tracks, forcing qualified talent out of the organization when they won't engage in the inside joke that is "the coffee status culture."

There is a silver lining though, there are plenty of people at hq who see the tragedy of the way things are. With some luck, the cuts this week will leave the future of Target in their hands.

Ignoring the trolls who I imagine as little chihuahuas--humping a throw pillow to completion... Although we do have a private Starbucks, the coffee isn't anything special. We set up coffees, for a multitude of reasons. Sometimes it's keeping in touch with people who have moved to other pyramids, sometimes it's getting to know new partners, there's networking, mentoring, griping and growing. There is value in stepping back and looking at things from different perspectives. Some people work best as social hermits, while others need to be engaged and inspired. Neither is good or bad, just different. No matter what, most people have embraced the GSD (Get Shit Done) spirit and the work is getting done. There are other time-wasters, but coffee is an easy target. We could go on about March Madness, the Spots, FFF, or whatever. Everything has value and people need to reserve judgement for themselves. If everyone is doing their best work--who cares how it is get done.

I think it's safe to say coffee has nothing to do with banging women at work. Can we please move on?

To everyone sharing their perverted fantasies here: where'd you learn to talk about women that way? Was that how your dad used to talk to your mom? Or was it your sister??

Exactly! We're more concerned about our jobs, not who you want to bone. Save it for your own dirty mind.

Coffe is shorthand for having an informal meeting between at least 2 people but no more than 4
