Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Productive ways to spend the weekend; my plan also

1) Search job postings in local but also nationally interesting locations.

2) Disregard notion of whether my title/level aligns with the job descriptions that jump out at me. A Target Mgr can be equivalent to an external director....Soo...if the description's characterization of the work excites you and your experience aligns -> that is enough to apply. Disregard title.

3) Get sleep. Eat well. Do not over drink. Seek community. Drink water. Read: Take care of yourself

4) Surround yourself with things, sights, sounds that inspire/cheer. Life is wonderful, Jason Mraz.

5) Remember your value. You are awesome! You've worked at a top talent employer whose strategy is shifting and whose cost structure got crazy. It's not you-> it's them!

6) kick it, Allstar. You're a Varsity player who has the skills to adapt, perform and generally crush your next role. The workforce needs us.

I hear the warning on not being arrogant but on the flip... If your actual experience at Target matches with an external job description of a higher title, then friend you have a great chance of securing that role. Certain Target Mgr positions have seemingly low titles but held P&L responsibility, etc. If we are asked to walk out on Tuesday, we'll take our actual results/ skill sets with us. Go in with the attitude of looking to find the best match both ways (for you and the prospect company)

Ha! Target Mgr equivalent to other companies' Director? Really, you all actually believe that? Get off your arrogant high horse. Remember why you are all in mess of layoffs. The company bloated out with too many layers and job titles to justify this false perception that you are rising star. Most managers and even buyers fill up their time with nonsense where people from other companies are twice as productive. Most outside companies have flatter organizations and less people so being a Director is actually harder to attain than at Target. Don't fool yourself. It is ok to be confident, but be mindful that doesn't turn into arrogance when you are telling a prospective employer why you are qualified for the job.

Tons on transferrable skills: project management, excellent communication skills, program experience, analytical/complex problem solving, vendor management, ability to navigate matrix organizational setup, operations management, etc and so on. Experience on scale or more complex than many other companies (if only due to purely the size of the company) and that's just the more general skills acquired. ;)

I actually do not think target experience is good preparation for another company. Target is all about titles. Very few people actually do the work their title suggests. I know so many people that left thinking the grass was greener only to come back because they had no skills.

Enjoy your family and friends, dark periods in life are much lighter when surrounded with people that love you and that you love.

Get sleep. Eat well. That's pretty much enough for me, as long I meet the two objectives, I am good. Have a great weekend everyone.

Also, you can still apply to jobs even if you don't meet some of their experience criteria. I worked outside of Target and you can score interviews and jobs even if you don't meet their exact 'at least X years of basket-weaving' criteria. Just have to think through the good experience you have and write it down so you can clearly speak to it. Good luck to us all!

The work force needs no one from tgt, especially not ex-managers. Stay positive sure, but all stars you are not. Arrogance is the worst characteristic you could posses right now.
