South Louisiana here, Stressed because we don't know when our time is coming. Why are they doing it this way? Is very stressful and it makes you question everything. Is hard to not believe rumors.

get real.
put yourself in the shoe of a group head. big kahuna says to axe 20%. who do you pick? obviously the lazy, the stupid, the low-valued, the highly-paid soon-retiree with no future contribution.... and sure, people you dislike.
its just business. theres no formula. no equation. hr doesnt have a say - they manage the non-exempt employees. do you think some hr person has the say over a skilled contributor whom they dont know? no. numbers are demanded from top management. the name list comes from your management.
keep the conspiracy theory for the school yard
Does a bear shit in the woods?
You are right about that, you know the drill. Anyone who talks about discrimination shall be laid off. This is a good time.
Another tasteless remark. Well deserved layoff I guess.
Work visa in the US does not pertain to a specific gender, race or national origin, there is nothing racial about visas. Another case is that those on work visas may bring their racial attitude tolerated somewhere else here - that may be true.
- Take your irrationality, ignorance and hatred somewhere else. Visa amounts to incompetence is a near racist remark. What a looser attitude.
I meant bribees since nobody else cares.
bribers will be reported to IRS since they don't declare this an income
I don't see that they are being consistent in the way how they pick a victim. Age was a factor in determining who would retire at some point. The rest like the employee cost and performance are not the factors. There are really incompetent guys with high salaries and sometimes with H1B visas sit in their management positions and this is OK, nobody touches them. Worse of all, some if the previous postings are correct take bribes and this is again OK. Unfortunately there are factors other than just performance, age and seniority that nobody will explain here even if they know.
I have seen then take into account age and time in the company - for example of one case where if the sum was greater than 80 you would be on the list.
Another one is salary - if you are a high earner you represent a higher cost and that gets you to the top of the list also
If you are good at your job and are valuable doesn't seem to be a consideration but that's probably because HR get involved and of course they don't have a clue
