Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

"Several thousand employees over the next 2 years"

Even if one doesn't get laid off in the next 2 weeks, how are they supposed to be productive knowing any day they can get axed? At this point every employee should look elsewhere bc job security will be non-existent at Target. You'd think having billions would buy you some common sense, but clearly it's not so "common" anymore.

It will not take anywhere near two years. It may take a couple of years to fine-tune everything, however I have seen this and been through this with other companies. The head chopping will take place very, very quickly.

Direct quote from Target's own press release page: "This includes the establishment of centralized teams based on specialized expertise and the elimination of several thousand positions over the next two years."

So, it sure sounds like they think the layoffs will be happening for 2 years, though it is very hard to imagine.

Target did themselves a disservice. For the next 2 weeks, 2 years, however long it takes, nothing is going to get done. People will be spending their time applying for jobs not knowing if they are safe or trying to get information from other people. It's too bad Target couldn't have figured this out as they went and just not filled positions versus creating the kind of chaos they are now due to innefective leadership. If leadership had any odea what was going on, then the only people this should be a surprise to are the people being laid off. If that is not the case, it's time to clean house starting at the top, not the bottom.

I can't imagine they're going to keep doing layoffs for two whole years. That would completely destroy productivity. I think we'll see some large layoffs soon, a complete restructuring, and then other cost cutting measures going forward.

I think they had meant to say that they will save $2 billion over 2 years with job cuts....they should have said the two years apart from the job cuts
