Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Layoffs in all depts? One Pyramid is missing !

The fact that most of this forum is arguing and agreeing that certain positions are a joke is proof positive that this company NEEDS the layoffs. so far I've heard Merch, TTS, TSS, Marketing, PDD, Finance early on...... However, no one speaks of the biggest elephant in the room: HUMAN RESOURCES !!! The great and powerful Wizards of OZ !

The college program is ridiculous. The recruiting is terrible at the ground level. The process is cumbersome.

Basically, anyone above TL is likely not doing much work- HR being prime examples.

Unless something has changed from my day, EEs did all the work, TLs took credit, EXTLs stole more credit, Store manager thought every non-exempt employee was a leech.

In my opinion, even if we knew the exact number the same questions and frenzy would exist. While I never want to see anyone lose their job, this isn't shocking given Brian was hired to return Target to a growth company after many missteps by executive leadership in the past. Growth always equals cost reduction and agility. Most who joined Target mid-career have an initial reaction once joining that there are way too many jobs at Target - 2 or sometimes 3 to 1 vs. other companies - hence all the meetings, prolonged approval processes and red tape. We have to move quicker. I know many people who have worked under Brian's leadership in the past and everyone raves about his performance and culture he builds. The traditional Target culture will definitely change through this transformation which will will be palatable for some and not for others. Change isn't always bad but a tough pill to swallow for many. Maybe I am naive and time will certainly tell but I remain hopeful to be part of the transformation and bring better days for Target. I also wish the many people that will be displaced (and potentially myself) to find fulfilling jobs elsewhere to realize there are many great places to be.

Anonymous73930: That may be status quo, but it is NOT the way to handle this situation. Here's a link from today's StartTribune.com about this very topic:

I have worked at a various companies that have experienced layoffs and how Target is handling them is status quo. There are many legal processes that need to be followed as process. It's never fun, and sucks for all - even those having to conduct the layoffs.

Dear Anonymous73923: If you are truly in HR, and I don't have any reason to doubt you at this moment, but this rumor mill and waiting until the grim reaper calls you via Lync can't be the proper way to handle an employee restructuring, is it? This, in my humble opinion, is the worst possible way to handle this situation. And quite honestly I believe will have long-term ramifications that will hurt Target in retaining AND acquiring top-notch talent.

HR will be hit hard I'm sure. Think of all the Talent Aquisition folks and OE/L&D is just way too massive.

Every pyramid will be hit and HR teams are sweating it out too. Less overall people at Target definitely impacts HR teams.
