Thread regarding L-3 Communications Holdings Inc. layoffs

More layoffs coming for CSW

I've been thinking about taking another job and leaving CSW. I've seen a few of my co-works terminated and so many others quit over the past couple of years. I often wonder when is it my turn. I feel comfortable with my job and want to stay to help make things work, but I have to admit I occationally go through a lot of anxiety and stress over the fear of loosing my job. My confidence level in management and HR is all but depleted. I feel like we have been lied to and the signs are just not there to make me believe things are improving. I heard this week that corporate is requiring another layoff. I am tired of thinking it isn't true, only to be once again dissapointed and having the guilt of being glad it was someone else and not me.

For those who have left, what what was the deciding factor? Do you regret your decision?

For those who are still employed with L-3, why are you staying? What would it take to convince you to leave?

Why would you want to help a company that doesn't give two shits about you and would lay you off without warning? Don't be a moron...LEAVE!! L3 sucks ass! I am SO happy I left. Was able to take the entire summer off and enjoy myself and now I have a great job with better pay and benefits. Anyone who stays at L3 deserves everything they get for being a dumb ass! Just sayin.

I remember that feeling, and I don't regret leaving, but I do regret going to another defense contractor, and I miss everyone I worked with.

I would rather be homeless and destitute than return to L3. Fortunately the world is much kinder and easier to navigate once you leave those depressing, drab, windowless labs. I have worked a few places over the last 30 years and L3 is by far the most detrimental place I have ever experienced. Life after L3 is like surviving cancer with perfect health and who in their right mind would ever regret that?

I agree with Guy. I've talked to many who have left voluntarily, and virtually all of them got better offers. L-3 CSW is a penny-pinching whore of a company. There are plenty of companies who will pay you more. It's sad to see so many people "staying put" because they get a Friday off. Seriously, people?!

Guy Fuwkes cannot believe his fuwking ears. "The unskilled people have long been shown the door." You obviously don't still work at CSW, pal (Anonymous 72753 - overpaid engineer with no talent). The only thing left at CSW are unskilled people! Fuwk, I'm one of them. All the talent walked out voluntarily within the past 2 years. They all have higher paying jobs at companies without nepotists. The people left, like me, don't give a fuwk if the place goes under tomorrow. Keep the checks coming, boys. As long as I'm getting paid every two weeks, I'll keep pretending to work.

If an opportunity comes up, take it. Otherwise the best thing is to sit tight, but always be looking around. Rule #1 of quitting a job is "Don't quit unless you have another job". CSW may be around another 50 years, it may close down by the end of the year. Who knows. What is so bad about the current situation is that your skills are not the main reason you could get laidoff. It depends largely at this point whether your boss likes you or not. The unskilled people have long been shown the door. Now it's down to who goes bowling with the boss or is friends with your family and other non-work related reasons. I feel your pain. I hit the road over a year ago. I found another job and was able to leave without the humiliation of having security walk me out the door.

You need to ask yourself a few questions:

1- Do you feel guilty of not coming in on weekends?

2- Do you take time off, such as vacation or are you requested to work your scheduled vacations.

3- Are you allowed to take holidays?

4- Are you constantly thinking about work when you're at home?

If most of these questions are answered with a YES then ask yourself do you have a life? I don't think so.

L-3 has gone downhill since 2000. Each individual has so much on his/her plate that they can't relax.

I don't miss leaving and yes there are other places to work especially up north. By now you must realize everyone is looking out for themselves, so don't feel guilty on leaving.

Nobody regrets leaving L-3 CSW. No one (who left) is coming back to L-3 CSW. The place won't be there in a few years, anyway (sold or liquidated, if I had to bet). My advice: quit tomorrow. Better yet: quit today. That place is cancerous.
