They are (SLB, Haliburton, etc..) all the same!. when there is a recession and share price is down, the first thing the management do is to layoff staff to keep share price up ( and keep investors happy). But sadly SLB layed off most of the experience staffs, keep only the cheap and junior ones. So I was wondering when the market normal again how can they get the good and experience professionals??. Not a smart thing to do !!!

There are so many more enjoyable career paths and companies to work for. Plus, you get to avoid the arrogant slime balls that work there.

I got laid off in in the last one, SLB called me back up a year later and rehired me, but I had already lost all my benefits (< 3 yrs, so they took all my IM pension). I never trusted them the 2nd time around and once I got offered something else I really wanted, I said chao to the crappy SLB life. Once the rigs start up again, it won't be long until SLB is begging experience to come back. Just remember that SLB doesn't really care about you if you decide to go back...

I went to Baker Hughes, it's been 4 years now. We were hit by layoffs this year as well, it's not pretty especially since merger with Halliburton is looming.

@ Anonymous89875 - it's very hard right now, there is a small number of O&G jobs that are open right now, 95% of all companies (upstream) have reduced capital budgets and will be contracting in 2015. This will continue into 2016. I am sorry to hear about your husband and I hope he finds something quickly.

My husband has been laid off for over a month and still no job. Are they still hiring in other oil companies? Will he just get hired to be laid off? We're a little gun shy now. What sectors are still trustworthy? Thanks for any feedback...
