It seems like nowadays there is no appreciation for sincerity and honesty. No matter how hard I try just to ‘Get There’ the road always feels so long, tiring and difficult. So, here I am telling you a story on how my life changed when the renowned automobile manufacturer, Ford Motor Company, fired me along with 90 other honest workers from their Chicago Assembly Plant.
I still remember the day like yesterday; it was October 31st, 2014 (Halloween). The day started with my wife waking me up and telling me to eat something before we began preparation for Halloween. However, from the moment I woke up, something didn't feel right. Regardless, I ate my breakfast and decided to check my voice messages.
I received only one message and it was from my workplace, which I would say was an unwelcome Halloween surprise. The call was an automated message announcing “As part of our normal business process we've temporarily adjusted our workforce numbers at the Chicago Assembly Plant” which meant, maybe I’m fired!
At first, I didn't believe it and thought it was a Halloween Prank or something. So, in order to confirm I called a colleague of mine, but he didn't respond and neither did most of my friends. However, I just assumed that the news was a prank and moved on with celebrating Halloween with my family. The next day I showed up to work anyway, only to realize my ID badge didn't function.
A few minutes later, the security told me that I was out of a job along with 90 other workers and said that the decision was only temporary. They didn't let us in and neither did Ford accept our request for a comment. I was hurt because I was always honest and sincere to the company. But what did they give me in return? A Robocall to tell me that I was fired and they no longer needed me.
I was out of a job and even though the company said it was a temporary decision, I never got a call back. But, I guess this is just how things are nowadays…
