Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Got rid people, but there is still plenty of work?!!!

I just don't get it, they got rid of people but there is plenty of work flowing in, contracts coming in and the like. It just doesn't make sense how when there is so much work, they can lay off as many as they did. For me, I think it all had to do with GREED. I am still there and stressed and pulled in so many directions, as ever. They almost make me feel that I should be so happy that I didn't get layed off, but all I wish for is for them to just fire me. EVERYDAY, I get up, I keep hoping. It's gotten so bad the things that they want you to do to get a raise, that have nothing to do with the large piles of projects and work that they pile on. Another way for SLB to get out of giving people extra money. If you don't do these extra things, no raise. But your everyday work goes unappreciated. It is a thankless job at SLB and they really don't care about you. For them you are just another person in a long succession of cattle herding in and out of there. Sending out resumes as I speak!!

They sent you a Value Statement to try and convince you that you make a lot more money than you think. HELLO...I pay for those benefits and you (SLB) make money off of my contributions via Tax breaks. I guess you can sell just about anything to anyone if they see no other alternative. Good Luck Rose.

"It's just business." Why do people buy stocks? Oh that's right, to lose money. Not. If you want to look at the bigger picture you would see that the biggest greed as you put it is the same place it has been for the past 60 years. Profit is profit no matter how it is generated, and the biggest profit is big oil companies. It is more profitable right now to divert capital from exploration and buy cheap oil to stockpile. What needs to happen is for OPEC to disband, thereby getting rid of the biggest monopoly since Ma Bell. Or figure out a way to make cheap oil not so cheap. Back in the seventies our government got involved in the oil crisis, but don't expect that kind of response today. Too many politicians own stock, and they want their profits too.

Depends on the facility that you work at and the department. But, they still let people go in those departments and it makes no sense.

Not everyone is dependent on new wells being drilled. There are some that still deal with work overs, P&A and other things. Rig count and new wells is only one aspect of the oil field.

what projects? Been looking at rig count, not much improvement.

No rigs = no work for field or office
