Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

How will I live without Schlumberger?

All I know is Schlumberger. How will I live without Quest, RIR and my manager giving me personal objectives. I have never said "no" to the job. My wife has always complained I was more married to Schlumberger and my FSM than her. How will I live without all that?

You know, I feel this way. The same thing that happened to Enron, will happen to Schlumberger. Maybe not exactly the same way, but KARMA will come around and bite them in the ass somehow. We all have that consolation. I still work there, but I am looking avidly for something else. I can't take the way they operate, treat the employees and pile work on 1 or 2 people. They expect overtime to get the job done. They don't care if you ever see your friends or loved ones. It's all about making them profit. When you complain nothing gets fixed and they throw the RIR thing out there, which never solves a dang thing! There whole system of doing things is so illogical and stupid. If you give your opinion or try and suggest a better way they get rid of you. If you don't tow the line, then well you are out of there. They are unreasonable in their expectations. I used to work lots of overtime, but one day, I said never again! Why?? For what? For them to pile on more work and work you to death so you can retire after 30 years looking like and old tire? That's if they don't slap you in the face and lay you off after you put in all the hours, sacrifice family time for THEM. It cruel. They layed off a close friend and seeing her cry was the worst thing. She didn't deserve it, while I saw others stay when they should have been let go. But what the ones that got layed off are the lucky ones, you have an opportunity to get out of this sinking ship before it sinks, cause it's sinking and fast!

A (for now) Big Red employee here. Businesses are all alike. In the 80s, red quietly dumped a few thousand people. They formed teams to decide who. One woman was assigned to lead a team right when she learned that she had ovarian cancer. She postponed her treatment to run the team. Guess who was one of the first laid off? Yep, her. No shit. No company gives a rats ass about the employees. Never give more to the company than they will give to you.

Your are grieving and depressed. Everyone gets terminated from Slb at some point in their lives. We all do; either to move on to other things, to retire, layoffs, or whatever the situation may be. One thing for certain...there is life after Slb. If you feel you cannot make it without Slb, then perhaps priorities need adjusting. SLB will take every ounce of life out of you. It will never tell you when to go home. However, when it comes down to the actual loyalty; the real door that should open both ways; it is really a trap door. It lets you go. Slb is all about profit at the end so it will cut the expensive head count which means, few people statistically will retire with it.

And the sheave wheels keep turning...and the pumps keep pumping...there is always someone behind us..
