Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Course Materials managers? Who?

So, are Retalon and the "Keep List" the way for Home Office to test out whether CMM's even need to be involved in text decision making? What's the over/under on when that job will be reduced/eliminated?

It is starting. As long as the higher ups get their raises and bonuses CMM will be done away with soon enough. But do the rcms realize they are next?

So many people were involved because of the fact there is no international support in the applications. There are always some start up costs associated with new markets.

BS. The DR is not making money and one time start up cost is true if Follett is only taking over that island. Look at how many people were involved in setting up two losing proposition stores. And FVC is doing so well that they stopped opening virtual stores, because nothing was selling on those websites. Making no profit. But both of those projects will stick around because they are DG initiatives. One is a feel good project, the other is for a DG pupil.

FVC has been a winner from day one. Dominican will be huge as we move into other markets. These are one time costs.

As schools grapple with the high expense of education and the reduced state and federal funding, they should be looking to Follett for answers on CMM. But Follett no longer has those answers, so they keep slashing at the knowledge base of their associates to reduce expenses. Except the costs do not go down, they go up with every new Sears/ KMart/OfficeMax manager or director they hire.

Cut labor expense? How about eliminating all of the new director positions created in the last year, and hiring some real workers. Stop spending on stupid projects, like FVS or Dominican Republic stores. Both huge money losers. Put a cap on number of hours spent in meaningless meetings and have people work.

Employee engagement? There is none right now. Great job by management team to totally demoralize each and every associate. How can anyone develop their team when it is bare bones? Get out while you can. It isn't just CM, it's the whole company.

Coursetracks itself has a limited life. No need for a separate merchandise system.

that is very much the long term strategy. CMM is seen as an unnecessary burden on the company's resources. And the reason I can say that is because they've been attempting to centralize all decision making now for several years, each time the process fails, but each time they restart a similar project within a fortnight. I believe 83365 is right.. if you're planning a move, I'd suggest you avoid any openings for CMM. These people are the backbone of an effective delivery of services to the campuses, but not to those without an understanding of the circumstances that make up the college bookstore industry. To them, they're just another group of ungrateful mouths to feed.

Now I get up feeling sick about going to work. Pulling into the Westbrook parking lot and seeing all the empty parking spots. Reserved parking is still full of course which is at the crux of why I feel the way that I do. This once proud and iconic toy company has been run into the ground by this class of senior mgmt. I enter and see the empty offices of those who delivered to get the job done. I catch a glance from one of these bluelight VP's and wonder if they enjoy that sense of control that they have over me and others. A wrong step on my part makes me nervous and worried that I have been added to the list for the next one. This is no way to live and.... impose my family to my new "nature" of total discontent. It's all so wrong isn't? It will be tough but leaving ASAP to get my sense of self worth back. Wish me luck.

As most outsourced project to Infosys/TCS - Retalon has had its share of problems, but that is the intention. CT Web also supports this organizational view - centralize text management. My bet is it will begin next year and continue. This leadership is only looking at how to lower cost.

It sounds like they are going to have employees/people serve/report to machines rather than machines serving people!
