Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Lets help those impacted. Advice for finding the next job after Target?

I suspect many people following this website today have been through a job transition after working at Target themselves. Help by providing insights about how you successfully made the change. What websites were most useful? What career boards? What social networks? Etc.

I'll give the first tip: Spend time to publish a quality profile on LinkedIn. Done well, you'll accelerate finding new possibilities by very quickly making new contracts and reconnecting with old ones.

The honest answer is you will make it through and find another job and then after that moving or changing jobs is much easier because your network is distributed.

Yes, the outplacement services we provide is pretty solid. Also, in-person networking is a must. Linked in is a tricky tool but you need to master it as it'll grow in importance over next decade

I was impacted by the layoffs last year and my best advice is take full advantage of the outplacement services provided as well as the programs offered by the state of mn (you will be notified by mail, it's the dislocated worker program I think and then of course unemployment). They were truly very beneficial no matter where you are in your career. Best of luck to those impacted. It may feel like you're falling off a cliff, but could be a blessing in disguise. Target is going through a tough time and they are PAYING you to move on to find something BETTER and hopefully more stable and suited for you. That has all the potential to be a GREAT thing. Good luck to all.

I agree on LinkedIn. Also, if you are looking forward to fining something very quickly and do not mind less ideal options, register with recruiting firms as they can help you find it something quick. If you are an IT person Dice tends to be pretty good and for all other I would use indeed.com for looking for postings. Good luck.

Use linkedIn, yes. But network like crazy IN PERSON. Make sure you have breakfast, morning coffee, lunch and afternoon coffee with 4 different people each day and connect with new individuals. Leverage your network and send emails EVERY day to people that might help. Do not feel bad about yourself. You just happened to be working at the present moment in one of the worst organized places in the US today. Good luck and chin up. You will have an awesome job in a couple months.
