I’m amazed at how many of you still believe you’re safe here, as if hard work guarantees anything anymore. I’ve seen enough over the years to know better. If you think this place will reward your loyalty, you’re only fooling yourselves. Denial won’t protect you, and I truly feel sorry for anyone clinging to that false sense of security.

I keep 2 Chairman’s award plaques in my desk. Not mine, they’re from the guy who used to sit next to me who got let go in a 2015/2016 re-org. It reminds me that nobody is ever “safe”
Simple situation: Chevron uses you to produce barrels and save money. They couldn't care less about your career or longevity. You need to use Chevron to accelerate your career, at some point you will realize that Chevron is no longer giving you any career boost, that's when it's time to move on.
"Loyalty" has meant nothing to American companies since the mid-80's (when all the roller-coaster layoff rounds began). You're on your own, regardless of your skills Chevron will readily throw you under the bus for a high-pot or diversity hire. Keep your skill set up, develop marketable skills, and book tangible, recognizable résumé entries. Look around, you will see that no one accomplished in their field sticks around with Chevron.
Ok, I’m awake
The really good ones are harder workers who keep up on their marketable skills. So when cr-p like this happens they can easily jump to a new employer, and chevrons left with mediocre workers who have less work ethic, fewer skills, and no options except to continue leeching off of chevron.
We are all under threat but I guess expats will be particularly at risk given their high costs. Except the Americans tasked with implementing this…
I suspect it’s because the ones that a really good are the ones that challenge the status quo and have a strategic vision that eclipses that of our “leaders”.
What we really need is more blind following the blind /s
It does seem though that the ones who really need to go always stay and the ones who are really good are let go….go figure!
I know I’m gone. It’s not a matter of if, but when. But I am certain I won’t be here this time next year.
100%!
what’s the point of this post or is it just gripping out loud?. The company is going to do what they think is best for them to do and we don’t have any control over that.
Absolutely true, I was shown the door in 2020 after 30+ years. This company has to loyalty to you no matter how good you think you are!!!!
