Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Power corrupts even good people over time

Do I think MW cares about laying off thousands and wrecking people’s lives? Nope.

Power corrupts even good people over time. Perhaps he wasn’t like this when he began his career. After years as an executive incentivized by performing actions highly detrimental to the general employee population, while lining his own pockets with astronomical figures, I have come to the conclusion that he may be a very rich man, but he is morally bankrupt. And so, no, I don’t think MW loses any sleep about us.

Bumping this up for visibility from @omo+1w7Ih9Aa.

"And MW didn't botch FGP."

MW was appointed CEO on Feb 2018 so he had oversight on FGP for nearly 7 years. So yeah, he kind of did botch FGP.

Can someone in TR explain how we justify MW getting increasing compensation despite decreasing responsibilities, for example the significant drop in CVX EE headcount, let alone the missed metrics? How many people reported to MW globally in 2020 vs. 2024?

Last years bonus cut due to missed safety metrics didn't seem to hurt MW's compensation package. So there's that. If talent is global, why don't we get a new CEO from Bangalru? We'd only have to pay him like $300k.

@1jff+1w7OyGR8 hello, ABU calling. If you want to see a top heavy, inefficient organisation that is poor with cost effectiveness, visit Perth.

To the person who said MW didn't drill the dry holes, he barely drilled anything that took upstream risk.

He's responsible for the strategy. CVX constantly underinvested in Exploration during his tenure while blowing down inventory at a rate of 2x a year. He also walked on a treasure trove of solid discoveries Exploration made in GOM we'd beg to have now and got no money for them on the way out singing his praises with saying like "We can do anything. We can't do everything." Only to turn around and see the market take over and FID those same discovieries made by Chevron Exploration and later ask Chevron Exploration why they can't make discovieries when they're simultaneously getting the CAPEX of a company 1/6th their size.

There are way too many higher PSG’s that we really can do without! They can go and we won’t miss a beat!

Yes, the problems that cause is to fu-kup MCPs are not the fault of MW, but he could make a difference. Engine is a sign that they have run out of ideas, it's a sunset period now. Its happening and it su-ks, I didn't want to be working for the buggy company when motor cars took over. The transition won't be as fast as horses to cars probably, but it's happening and Chevron doesn't have the right leadership to change. Dividends are what investors expect, and that is what we will deliver at all costs, employees are not part of the consideration.

VRD, what do you mean about mischaracterizing interference? Did someone hide it?

Yes he didn't but his cronies did, who btw, he hand picked. So you cannot sit on top and say, "I didn't do anything."

The irony is that Chevron is overstaffed when compared to just about any other O&G company. What would you have him do?

MW didn't drill dry hole after dry hole for a decade (exploration). MW didn't miss-characterize interference in the Delaware. And MW didn't botch FGP.
