Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Advice for new applicant

Does the yearly bonus have a merit based component to it? Also, what would be a fair starting salary to ask for an independent contributor engineering role for someone with 9 years experience? Any info would be helpful. My current employer got rid of the merit based portion of bonus. The last 2 years have been frustrating for me knowing I got the same bonus as the lower performers.

Do not join Chevron. You’d be making a horrible mistake. Go find somewhere better. Read through this forum to understand why.

Thank you for the information sir!
I am sad and happy at the same time after reading this. I've been officially scr**** my entire career working in the petrochem industry. With this type of compensation I can't believe the level of complaining that I have read on this site. Move over you lazy b-ms! Make room for someone who enjoys coming in to work rather than "working from home".

WithChevron, you hardly can negotiate your salary, they decide what FL or PSG to assign you to based on your experience [generally they underpayment and give you lower PSG or FL]. The pay would be a range within that PSG but again they would not offer you something high, they stay with low to mid range of that PSG. The bonus is a function of many things, it varies year to year, do not count on it as a specific number, but typically again based on your salary it could range from 10% to 40% depending on corporate ratings, your performance, etc, on average it is about 20 to 30% of your salary through your career, but there have been exceptions.
