Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Worried about my family’s future

I’m under a lot of stress right now. My wife lost her job seven months ago after ten years, and I’m the sole provider for our family of four. If Chevron layoffs hit me, we’d be in serious trouble. We have some savings, but it won’t last long. I’m trying to stay calm, but the uncertainty is ki-ling me.

You don't worry about problems, you solve them. If you're genuinely worried, go without gut and look around. I've been through many of these in the last 22 years and I'm the least worried I've ever been

To get to work for Chevron it means you have alot of talent and skill that is transferable so it shouldn't be difficult to start fresh. While some markets don't look great others like Saudia Arabia, Qatar and the middle east are recruiting.

Chin up and focus on what you can control. Strong results. Positive attitude. Make your bosses job easier. Get plenty of rest and spend time with family and friends.

Stuff we can't control su-ks but we can't dwell on it. Find a way to vent it out like exercise.

Hang in there things have a way of working out for the best!!

If you’re really concerned it doesn’t hurt to start looking that way you can take time to find a good fit. There are many good companies to work for.
The career runway at Chevron seems to be shorter with all the changes.

The job market is truly horrible right now I have ma t friends who got laid off and they cannot find anything decent or close to what they made before. Media doesn’t report it accurately . Might have to get very very creative until things improve

A Ozzie saying we have is "She'll be right Mate". It has a wierd meaning, do all you can do and the rest, just keep positive and tackle it as it comes. Remember you have a family who don't care about fancy possessions and Mates who will be there on the down as much as the up. Best of luck, Digger.

Not every family is a dual earner for multiple reasons, being worried when you currently have a good paying job will not help you. It is unbelievable you guys post such things on layoffs site instead of spending time on more valuable and under control items.

Dear Abby, I'm worried about things I can't control, so I turn to social media for advice. Am I normal?

While you wait start getting your resume, LinkedIn profile in order. Research companies and positions you could apply to when the time comes. Have your wife do the same. Keep yourself busy focused on your future while you wait. Many ( including myself) are waiting. It’s hard and stressful . I have a feeling things won’t happen as quickly as they like as there is too much going on. Cutting costs and saving as much as you can is really all you can do. Good luck.

Silver linings here: you’ll get a layoff package and some unemployment. You’ll have a cushion.

I'm itching for some uprising. Maybe then we don't have to worry like we are. Sorry you're going through that, apply while you can... Any action is better than nothing.

Start looking at what expenses you can cut now so you can begin saving extra. If you're eating out all the time, stop doing that immediately and cook at home/take your lunch to work. Let family know that you'll be on a strict budget through the holidays. Postpone any extra expenses you had planned until you know what your fate is. Have your wife start applying to jobs outside her field just to get some sort of income to help save me. Seriously, you should be in cut everything to the bone mode until you know what is happening.

You always have to look for something different and not waiting to be laid off without any understanding of the market
