Thread regarding L3Harris Technologies layoffs

Fired

One person in my office just got fired because he was working remotely for the past 3 weeks. He only came in one time.

For those that don't know, they do track badge swipes. So, if you're working remotely when you're supposed to be in the office, when it comes time to look at people to lay off it wouldn't be a surprise to know they check badge swipes as part of their criteria to cut low hanging fruit.

It’s pretty obvious to know who does or doesn’t come in for smaller sites. Probably was a small site I’m guessing. They do monitor badge swipes as well..

It's nice to know upper management can still work from home though. My entire chain past my direct manager have not been in office period since the RTO. But yeah, we don't talk about that.

another person that i know of refused to come back into the office and had used all of their 4 weeks PTO and sick time as well so they had no more time to use without approval . I know we have unlimited PTO and sick but there is a level where you need to get upper management approval to take over 160hr PTO. Since they refused to come back they were told they couldn't work from home and decided not to communicate with anyone. they treated it as job abandonment. you're not entitled to unemployment since you were told to come back to the office and you failed to comply.

I’m sure there’s nothing more to this story, and the guy working from home was giving it 110% working OT every week while serving triple duty as a CSE/IPT/PM with irreplaceable tribal knowledge.

Re: But if that person is getting their work done, I don’t see why it can’t be a flexible schedule.

Because the company said so. We don't get to negotiate by just not coming in. It isn't an " easier to get forgiveness than permission" situation. We were told to return to office full time. Period.

Should've told his boss he had irritable bowel syndrome and had to work from home.

Was there a PIP in place already or did the sword drop without warning? Also how did they know the employee wasn’t coming in — badge swipes or did someone snitch?

I do agree with the previous comment somewhat. It’s a full RTO. This is why people quit and find new jobs since they don’t want to come into office. But if that person is getting their work done, I don’t see why it can’t be a flexible schedule.

That is as it should be. Not coming to work when you were told to is job abandonment.
