Monkey see, monkey do - the end of WFH and Hybrid?

This is likely already brewing in the SR and HR war rooms...

You get what you pay for and chevron has been over paying greedy and self obsessed 'leaders' within the ABU for a long time. Prime focus has to be on a much flatter organisation and then we could start to weed out the seat warmers. They're obvious to all.

I don't see why everyone is attacking the Perth HQ!? I enjoy the free fruit every Tuesday and Thursday!

I have to say, I was pretty disappointed to see all the money that went into that new building during my visit to ABU. Sure, it’s impressive at first glance, but it doesn’t seem to be bringing much value where it counts. The folks around here don’t seem any happier for it either. In fact, the atmosphere feels downright strained, and it’s clear morale ain’t where it ought to be.

As for the staff, it’s been surprising to see the level of entitlement around here. It’s like they’re more focused on their own convenience than the work at hand, and if you’re lucky, you’ll catch ‘em doing anything productive for three days straight. There’s a real disconnect between what’s been invested and what’s actually getting done.

At the end of the day, it’s a hard pill to swallow. It seems like a whole lot of money went into making things look good from the outside, while inside, the foundation’s shaky at best. Something needs to change, and I'd start with the managers and supervisors.

It is fair to say that chevron is not serious about costs whilst it operates the Perth HQ which is a monument to waste. Add to that the bloated staffing and you have a BU basically out of control.

“If your job can be done from home, it can be done from India” is probably the laziest, stupidest thing I hear people say about WFH.

it completely ignores skill set, time zones, expertise, contacts and relationships, culture, communication, work delays waiting overnight, ability to come into the office when needed, and company culture.

All of you dummies who think this stupid saying is accurate, enjoy seeing everything go to cr-p in 5 years when ENGINE is putting out subpar work even though they’re in a Chevron office 5 days/week.

These rumors were flying thick and fast last year and nothing came of it. Not saying it won’t happen, but why the confidence that it will happen?

If your job can be done from home, it can be done from India. I am going back to office five days to differentiate versus most of the others.

@1wir+1ux8Rblc - 3 days a week? That estimate is on the high side!

  • Late start on Tuesdays
  • Team drinks at 3 pm on Wednesdays and
  • I have to leave early to beat Perth traffic(?) on Thursdays!

The average is less than 15 hours a week in the office.

Soon ABU will have to justify the millions being bled on a cruise ship of a building that requires 100 staff to run only to operate 3 days a week. What an absolute waste.

RTO is just a way for companies to drive attrition without having to do layoffs / pay severance

Zero chance they'll copy Amazon. Amazon are going flatter, chevron is built upon little empires.

No room in Houston offices. Can’t do it.

Amazon is the second largest employer in the US, right behind Walmart, once a giant like Amazon pulls the trigger, other will follow, it is now justified across all the TECH CEOs and industry CEOs to replicate what Amazon has announced, the good times is coming to an end and it should not be a surprise to any, stay tuned for Chevron's upcoming policy change by year end.

Amazon also said it's reducing layers. Chevron always makes the same vow with each reorg but it never happens as managers need an empire to justify their positions. We might end hybrid but we will never flatten. Ever.

Luckily we don’t have space for that… at least not currently. They’ll have to slash a lot of US jobs for ENGINE if they want Houston to fit in the two towers.

Yup. It was fun while it lasted. Gonna be mandatory 100% attendance. Thin the herd before the layoff.
