Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Question from out of college newbie at WF

Does having WF on your resume have value these days? I took the job simply as a starter. I’ve been here for 6 months now, and already have a feeling it’s a waste of time. Granted I have no significant previous experience, and my perspective is probably quite off. Perspective from the veterans would be welcomed and appreciated.

Start interviewing now. It is one of the top 5 banks in the world, so thats at least a good thing you can say about it on interviews. But get out asap.

honestly, having it on your resume isn't as much of a stigma as most people here will make it out to be. it definitely depends on your role and what company/industry you're applying to, but most reasonable employers understand that Wells is a huge company and lower level employees aren't complicit in any wrongdoings. especially if you're applying to other banks/financials where all large banks have their known issues.

I am on the other end … spent 25 years in another industry, retired, then came here 10 years ago. I could not envision staying here for an entire career. I would do a few years then head to a better firm. Hard to beat the salary here, but you are young and still have most of your earning years in front of you. I am just waiting for displacement and my nearly 8 months of paid vacation.

Start looking even now that way you don’t spend forever looking when you want to bolt.

This is no country for young (wo)men.

Get your 2-3 years of experience, then bail and go to a real company.

Most people I talk to do not have a good opinion of WF. However, to your benefit, you are new enough that you cannot be blamed for past deeds of the bank. I would look to find a better place to work that doesn’t carry so much baggage.

Without being too specific, what do you do at the bank?
