Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Any truth to the rumors about massive layoffs coming this month?

I’m hearing more and more about it. Can’t say that I don’t expect major layoffs to happen any time soon, but it would be good to have heads-up. Since I personally don’t see any future for myself in T (nor any spectacular future for T), I hope I’ll get caught in the net this time. I don’t even care how long it will take to find another job. Staying here became utterly pointless.

“ Public Sector one of the few viable sales organizations that is almost right-sized you will see some surplus of lower performing sellers and the consolidation of a couple of sales teams over the next 4 months”

This segment is NOT “right-sized”. A forecast of 20% reduction had been approved through January 2025. Sorry to disappoint.

I'm an ad in IHX and have a few friends that are dos or higher. They're all telling me to move back to retail ASAP, or get out of the company if I can find better. These are friends I rose up with, and I've NEVER seen them so scared before.

I'm telling you. If you're in IHX or any biz sales role, start looking elsewhere asap. Even if you're unionized IHX, you are not safe. It's truly sad, because out of all my years with AT&T, this channel was the most exciting and fun one I'd been a part of. To see it slowly rot down from the top and ruined breaks my heart.

Time to move on, though. You can ignore this if you want, but remember it when they come for you too. It won't stop with just IHX. I'll say more when I find out more stuff definitively that I can say and it won't impact my friends.

Good luck out there in the meantime.

When are they going to offer the most senior techs that have only 4-5 years of service remaining an offer to leave earlier than planned? It would clean house of guys that no longer want to be here, but are just tolerating the corporate BS just to reach their original retirement plan. Retirement plans can easily be adjusted for the benefit of both T and the employee! Get with it, ATT, time to look at the big picture through a smaller lens!

No mgmt. layoffs in the SE until after they've worked Contingency assignments. Letters will come out within 2 weeks of a TA and will include verbiage that "AT&T thanks you for your service."

This comment deserves so much attention bc it’s probably true. I am sick that as a low level manager, I am working a CP assignment when half my coworkers got letters last week, and I almost certainly will get one before the end of the year.

Yes, mass layoffs in the works. Entire company focus is now to reduce headcount at all costs to prepare for post November election environment.

For sales roles, in global the move has been to make the SALS the main single seller with some mobility reps as overlays to the module, with the plan to start moving the mobility sellers out of the business by the end of Q4/2024-Q1/2025.

The global mobility sellers in acquisition modules will see more pressure from SP/Alliance Channel and the fiber reps to move to a single seller model, and you will see seller attrition over the next 6 months

Public Sector one of the few viable sales organizations that is almost right-sized you will see some surplus of lower performing sellers and the consolidation of a couple of sales teams over the next 4 months

Mid-Markets is all about being on plan to thin the heard and you can see that the majority of sellers in several markets are on plan and the business model is to churn sales reps and bring in lower paid new sellers as they move to alliance channel sellers.

Aquisition-formerly BAT is on the bubble, though leadership is more cautious as they also have exposure if they downsize or consolidate to smaller sales teams.

IHX-everyone knows they are out.

Retail a dying model that T can't off-load fast enough though union contracts pose challenges.

My org will be notified September and off payroll October. Heard it was minimal and some through attrition.

IHX is about to get hit, and right after their 7 year anniversary too! They're putting every IHX rep on action plans so they can easily get rid of them for whatever reason they want. Since 99% aren't unionized they're gonna get sc--wed.

Retail is going to do the same, but you can expect only 1 head down per store instead of store closures. IHX is being replaced by techs, so the techs will be required to sell as well as install. They've already started that transition, and you can expect commission for techs.

IHX is already cutting down on directors, choosing not to backfill any that have seen the writings in the walls and left.

I hope techs don't mind selling! Ya'll gonna wish they kept IHX around. If you're IHX now, run. As soon as you try to unionize you're gone.

Anyone know which orgs (SVPs/VPs) have told their employees there will be impacts this month?

Orgs have already submitted names and good orgs have already told the people that are going. I've heard it's 5-10% depending on the org. Level 3 heavily impacted and some level 1 and 2. Rolling monthly through the end of the year.

I heard 8/26 is the date but it’s not clear which orgs.

I know a shitton of RTO/location reassignment letters went out a couple weeks ago. Responses were already due, so that may fulfill a bunch of numbers. Anyone trying to hedge their bets has until February.

Mass layoffs happened in July in Mass Markets Commercialization. Hearing it’s moving org by org through rest of the year.
