Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Do you know anybody who regretted leaving Wells Fargo?

Out of those who left on their own.

The vast majority of leavers in my office seem to return on different teams. They are running from bad managers not the company itself

I left and partly regretted it. I didn't care for the work I did (bit of a bait and switch) but I wish I would have hung in there and transferred as my teammates later did. Instead some guy recruited me for his startup and I jumped, only to find out he was barely involved and the "leadership" were very young and inexperienced a--holes. Everyone at this startup gets fired so I am looking. Wells has reached out to me about 2-3 x a year about coming back but I'm wary due to the layoffs.

I left over 3 years ago. I practically had a stagecoach tattooed on my chest. Before I left, I was offered a job to lead a small team in hopes that I would lead the larger team after the leader retired in 1-2 years. That leader is still there and I’m glad I didn’t wait. Went to work for smaller banks. I liked the opportunities to learn at small companies but they are just as dysfunctional as larger ones but with few people to share the burden of solving problems. Talent is typically worse at smaller companies since the pay isn’t as good (yes I know what that says about me). I work in a heavy union state so even white collar jobs are hard to get people to do the bare minimum. Staying or leaving won’t solve your problems. Take the check, get a hobby, learn to be content. Being a sheeple is ok.

Smaller paycheck. Better benefits. No stress. Zero regret.

I wouldn’t go back to WF even if you doubled my former salary.

I know someone who left Wells to go and work at a tiny firm with a sleazy ex colleague. The job lasted less than a year, and he hasn’t found anything since. I think it’s been about two years.
No doubt he regrets leaving WF. At least he would have gotten severance had he been laid off from here.

I know of two in Tech who left on their own in ‘21-‘22. One tried to come back (was a salty egg when he left) but our manager wasn’t interested in hiring him back. Another expressed regret for leaving but did not try to come back.

I think my frustration is seeing what the work environment COULD be. When I got to Wells I loved it. I did have a manager in my tenure who was the worst I have ever worked for (fabricating and deleting counselings in my eval, conflicting directions with upper management, etc) but after they left I had some good ones again. The benefits were great, but when I was denied my request to voluntarily work at a Hub (I had a medical accommodation that still prevented me from going into the office) and told basically I was on the layoff list I started looking and found a lateral move to another company I had to take for job security to support my family. I don’t think I regret it, but in the end they forced me to go. I must say I have less personal stress knowing I have job security now.

any fail to realize that the grass isn't always greener. I know folks who have left in recent years only to come back and also this who wish they could come back but because of where they leave are now unable. Even if you hate this place with a passion, don't burn bridges because you never know what the future holds.

I did - 2017 - left for a company which was very unprofessional - boss always wanted to see me working during biz hours while being fine with me working early morning/late nights. Results didn't matter. Also they were a sleezy law firm and the partners would jerk people around outside of management structure. They decided they were not going to make bonus in 2019, laid off their entire dev staff, no severance.

I left wells for this job. The problems at wells still remained when I got back but I was on a team that did different types of work so I could grow - one of the big reasons I left Wells.

I left on my own back in 2022 and came back.. main reason was the company I left for was extremely meeting heavy and I had no work life balance.

make sure you have something to run towards, not just away from.
