Thread regarding L3Harris Technologies layoffs

RTO - Return to office effective Sept 16.

Post on reddit confirmed it. Not surprised but i do think we will lose a lot of people because of this.

If you haven't had a talk about RTO you most likely won't have to worry about it and not for the reason you think. I know a few people in manufacturing support roles, ie. play with data all day, and I asked them and they said they haven't heard anything but it is because there isn't enough space. These people fiddle around with data "looking for patterns" never really accomplishing anything. Uh, do the math

Looks like they are serious. L3Harris Clifton HR has already compiled a list of employees that will be let go if they do not comply with the RTO mandate for September 16. Don't trifle with these people. I worked the 2nd shift for years at that place. When the company decided to move me to the day shift I showed them how I was a primary care provider for an elderly relative during the day and could not change my hours. My work was done well, I had no disciplinary actions and my attendance was perfect. The company told me they didn't care. When I questioned the legality of reducing my pay by 10% (I would lose the differential I was hired with) because I was HIRED for 2nd shift, they told me "too bad". I hired an attorney who informed the company in writing of this breach of my union contract. Both the company and the union refused to comply. Then I was told in a private meeting with my manager and my union rep that "We can do what ever we want. You can sue us all you want. You will run out of money before we do. And you won't have a job at all."
I was forced to change my hours and my gross was reduced by 10%. My attorney told me we did not have the time or the money to sue them. The result was that my elderly relative had to move into a nursing home. I was passed over for upgrade 3 times after that happened. They tried several times to fire me but failed because they had no cause. They tired to make me quit but I dug in like a tick. They gave me a disproportionate amount of work and I did it without fail.
I stayed with that sh-t company until I was able to retire. i stayed because I didn't want to give them the satisfaction of making me quit. Now I have a pension and a great big fat 401K because I invested every penny of disposable income into my retirement.
The reason for this long rant is to say one thing:
THIS COMPANY DOES NOT CARE.

"I know many individuals that are working "10-12" hours every day" "doing the job of 3 people"

why?

If you are doing the job of 3 people you are either delusional or need to find a higher skilled position because you are wasting your effort for people that don't appreciate it.

I wish those that keep bashing the WFH employees would stop, not every remote worker has been taking advantage, I know many individuals that worked 10-12 hours and worked very hard, doing the job of 3 people at times. Those salaried employees didn’t just stop working after 9 hours they kept working!

It’s too bad. I left this company a couple years ago because of a hiring & promotion freeze and come back to them removing hybrid work designation. I understand some folks have been coming on site full-time as is “get over it” mentality, but you come to adopt a certain schedule and routine that impacts your work and morale if it’s unnecessarily adjusted, especially out of your favor. What’s so bad about allowing employees one/two days a week working from home? We’re in the office 30+ hours a week most cases, you can’t “swing by” my cubicle to ask your question during one of those many windowless hours? Typical short-sighted decisions to appease shareholders, I get that’s the bottom line but when you’re actively going out of favor with the industry standard hybrid model what’s to be expected? Success? Maybe for the fiscal year, further than that, unlikely. I like the 3% merit raises as much as the next guy (LOL) but this company hasn’t done much to indicate to their employees that it’s been successful as it has financially. Disappointing.

If we say the quiet part out loud, this is to push people out and have people leave the company, therefore eliminating as big of a RIF in the future. We'll call it a "soft" layoff. They can button it up and try to create all of this higher level financial reasons, but at the end of the day it is to push people out.

So hybrid employees are keeping the company from reaching financial goals, not lack of profitable programs. And fully remote employees have zero impact since there is no change to their work environment according to the email.

Reactions are a mixed bag of mostly negative feedback to the RTO order. Morale is low in Aerojet WPB.

Site is in the middle of the South FL swamp, 30-90mins from where most workers live. WFH was a great opportunity to help with commuting. Plus the site probably doesnt have enough desks to support everyone coming back.

It doesnt effect nor help the operations people that already have to be there every day. They never got the opportunity to WFH unfortunately.

Overall nobody is thrilled with L3Harris’ management of AJRD. Large disconnect between president and working man.

Only have heard rumors of the layoffs, but they are almost expected at this point in October.

I am very disappointed that our interns and new hires are having to see the impact of these corporate decisions. Not a great impression of our company and many new/old employees will leave due to it.

With the recent layoff and revoking hybrid work, it gives good employees an opportunity to polish their resumes and look elsewhere for work.

Morale is low and will continue on that path until employees are appreciated. If I was an investor I’d worry about this becoming the next Boeing.

Our competitors offer remote and hybrid work, talented, experience employees always can find another home. The only thing l3harris has showed is that we are absolutely unstable and instead of constantly shuffling the deck and making major announcements every other week, we should be trying to help our programs and functions succeed. Currently, we are severely understaffed on critical programs due to many layoffs. I love my job and my team, so disappointed at this company. We could of been great. Good luck everyone.

let's be clear on something, the hybrid schedule and working from home was a pandemic related safety protocol. for those of us who were deemed essential workers, and had to work every day, enduring long lines in the parking garage while getting our temperatures taken and filling out forms before we could go to work,, you get no sympathy. your place of employment is the building where you work. get over it. get off your a-s and do your effing job.

the reason for returning to the office is so the third party consultants can evaluate your true contribution to the company. time to get out of the pajamas and get to work snowflake. and bring your A game because you will be fighting to keep your job.

“Could one refuse to come in and wait until they get fired and collect severance”

Not an employment lawyer but I believe if you are fired with cause (as opposed to a generic reduction in workforce), you would not be legally entitled to receive severance pay.

I feel for people that this is going to affect negatively, but I’ll be glad to see my level 5 Group lead who does level 2-3 work back in the office full time.

They changed the definition of hybrid a few months back to anyone who lives within driving distance of a facility, to get us all of remote status and then force us all to come back in.

Wait a minute. They are consolidating/shutting down locations but now telling everyone they need to be back in the office? They must be thinking a bunch of people will leave as a result. Problem is there are a lot of people working hybrid that are getting the work done and this will definitely hurt/ki-l some projects.

we all know the dirty Little secret that everyone has been covering up is that most of the people working remotely weren't doing sh-t anyway. no place was that in more evidence than in Clifton New jersey.

Hybrid work schedule was a good balance between work and personal life for myself.

Wonder what will happen to fully remote employees?

An email was sent from Ross to leaders. The official announcement will go out AR wide on Monday 7/15. Main bullet point is:
Effective September 16, all L3Harris employees (including the Aerojet Rocketdyne segment) who are currently on a hybrid schedule will resume full-time onsite work at their designated facility.

Realistically, could one refuse to come in? Keep doing their work remotely and simply wait to be fired in order to get the severance?

CHQ is completely pants-on-head re--rded at this point. Yes, it will potentially prevent a RIF, but at what cost? I guess it doesn't matter to the C-suite, they are on-pace to get those sweet stock options and bonuses, so fu-k the actual employees, amirite?

More brain drain, lower morale, higher stock price: everything is right in the C-suite world.

Yes, I do think people will voluntarily leave meaning they won’t have to lay people off and give severance. For L3Harris it’s a win win. For us, not so much.
