Sick policy

So I got sick and informed my boss who told me don’t come to the office, noting I have a three hour commute round trip via train and work alone, my team is in another state. I have Covid with a cough from he-l. I worked from home for three weeks as a result of being severely short staffed and my boss saying he saw an email saying stay at home. I was so paranoid I had my child videotaping me throwing up and pics of phlegm. I had no fever but all the flirt variant symptoms. No way I would have energy let alone have coughing fits puking mucous in the train. I was told they audited me and during the last three weeks I’ve not met the work in the office requirement despite being sick. I was told they need to put this in mid year review and I need to adhere to policy. So nothing was a problem until I got sick. Wf wants you in the office sick or they will write you up. Where is the policy on the protocol? I’m in my mid 50s so I know what’s up.

I made sure to meet my required days in office when I had Covid last month. The firm is strangely obsessed with forcing people to suffer, so I was happy to follow their rules. Hopefully no vulnerable people caught it from me.

I was sick a few months ago and took 6 half days in two weeks so I could work from home. 6 half days is only 3 PTO days.... why didn't you do that?

OP here, I have it in writing to stay at home from manager. I was coughing in the office the week prior and met the RTO requirements prior. We are short staffed and buried so they would rather not further burden my team. I wfh for 2 weeks. I was already getting looks of disgust from this on the train.

I honestly would’ve just taken 3 half days PTO, and justified it saying I was online the whole time but working at only about 50% effort due to illness, or whatever. Then you wouldn’t have to go in and would get 3 days for that week, and only lose 12 hours PTO in the end.

The PTOpolicy (per the handbook) states that PTO should be used when you are sick. Being sick does not exempt you from location strategy. It isn’t anyone else’s fault that you live so far from your site.

the sick policy is that if you are sick you should stay home and take PTO. That being said, there is general guidance for managers regarding in off requirements and expectations available on employee works, I mean team works. the guidance even covers when you are sick but well enough to still work. While you'll still show up in the reporting, managers do have some digression to grant you the ability to work from home in these cases where your job allows it. Because tracking/flagging happens over a rolling 4 week period they do suggest that you try to make it up in other weeks, but your manager can let you work from home. What it seems you never got was a written approval. You should have sent them an email and asked for a response via email this way any pushback falls on your manager and not you. I really wish they would just add a work from home exception option in the time away tool on workday that would require managers approval and could be tracked in the in office reports. but that would be too convenient.

Agree with the poster below. Your management chain is able to grant you a 30 day exception to the in office policy. I’ve been told 30 days is the max.

Hey OP. I am in my mid-40’s and I can confirm that you unequivocally DO NOT “know what is up” based on your post. Do you always play the victim in your version of the game of life? I suspect the answer is Yes.

Your post reads like a drunken 28yrp little girl who has a hang over and doesn’t want to go to work. The details have already been posted but it is clear you know neither the WF sick policy (hint, for a vast majority of the US employees there isn’t one) nor the RTO policy. Keep trying to rub that crayon against the cement to create a flame and gaslight others. Something will happen for you eventually. And stop eating the paste FFS.

They def don’t advertise a sick policy. Most managers will just tell you to take pto or make up your in office days which no one wants to do so people go in sick.

Some LOBs state over a 4 week period will work and not be dinged on reviews (this doesn't mean random misses, but true reasons for not coming in). That stated, a minor case of Covid is staying home for a few days or a week most.

Your boss (or their boss) has the authority to grant up to 30 days of exception to in-office policy. You are supposed to ask in writing, they need to respond in writing, and it is supposed to be notated as a Workday “check in”

The problem here is with your boss/lack of documentation. If they told you it was OK, they need to come forth with that, and add it to workday.
