Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Laid off and now need SDI

Laid off months ago and got very sick recently. Does anyone know if you can file short-term disability claim even though no longer an employee? (I'm in severence period)

Do I file with the state and they deal with WF if necessary?

None of this is covered in displacement packet. From what I can tell from online research, it seems you can file SDI claim if you haven't been unemployed long, were employed long enough prior, and cease unemployment benefits during SDI (can resume once SDI ends).

“The rest of the j*rks who've responded don't know what they're talking about. Nasty, angry people who have no compassion.“ wow. Who is nasty and angry? Look in a mirror

At any rate they don’t want state disability which generally pays garbage. They want insurance disability which pays closer to what they were making.

To OP yes do contact State but lawyer and Lincoln if you want to base it on the insurance Wells had on you while employed there.

File with the state and they will tell you if you’re eligible.

Yes, you can file for short-term disability. You can't through Lincoln Financial, but can through the state.

They will base it on WF wages.

I did it. Was hospitalized 3 mos. after layoff notice, when no longer an employee. Too sick to look for work for a period of time.

The rest of the j*rks who've responded don't know what they're talking about. Nasty, angry people who have no compassion.

Call up Lincoln who coordinates that and see what they say. Next, go to a disability attorney. Third, don’t trust legal and insurance advice from those who weren’t in either (aka the people who read this).

OP- you are hospitalized and have a severe illness… yet have time to post on a layoff forum, but you can’t fill out online job applications?

“ OP here. I'm in severence period, not 60-day notice period.. 69-day notice period ended and I'm no longer an employee.”

Not an employee, wants to file for employee benefits. Brilliant!

Wait until your severance is almost over. Then file for STD for an additonal 26 weeks of pay(half pay).
Profit?

Serious answer: No, STD not applicable

OP here -- looking for a job is a job. I'm not trying to game the system. Hospitalized due to severe illness and not able to look for a job.

Why does everyone assume the worst?

I see what you’re saying here… what the heck are you saying here? Me thinks you’re looking for a financial advantage somehow. I’m no mathematician, but I’m sure we can count on you. You can’t always get what you want, but………….

Maybe the OP meant STD.

The point of STD is to take time away from work and while still getting paid. You are effectively already getting that with severance. What exactly are you trying to achieve?

Why would you need short term disability when you aren’t required to go to work?
