Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

First bad review in 10 years

Had my review meeting this morning. Over the last 10 years I’ve usually gotten consistently meets and on occasion exceeds. However, for the first time I was rated as inconsistent. I have a feeling it is because I’m remote. All my work was done but they came up with random reasons (all untrue but no way for me to prove them wrong) to give me a bad review. My manager has been implying I would get laid off due to location strategy but it hasn’t happened yet. She has slowly reassigned my work to others and has canceled our 1-1 since April. I don’t think I’m on a PIP (yet) as I didn’t sign anything and they didn’t lay out any tasks and timelines. I’m trying to figure out if they’re trying to fire me without giving me severance.

WFH will be laid off or RTO. Not because of ratings but because of strategy. It will happen unless you have medical accommodations. Ratings may be offered this way because your boss wants to keep the core city employees happy. It’s hard to say.

You are definitely on the lay off list. There are several reasons a manager will do this to you. They come together this way: a remote employee but with lower performance does not justify offering relocation nor approving your voluntary relocation. And definitely no justification for a remote exception. Plus, giving you an IM helps the curve for your division (20% of employees below Meets). Moving your work to others is advanced planning on their part. Very high likelihood you'll get severance and not termination since term would require a lot more scrutiny. If you normally get an annual bonus and are still here next year then probably zero or low bonus.

I was laid off in June and my manager uploaded my review as needs improvement with false statements in it. I wasn't notified about going over the review even though I'm in my 60 day notice period. My manager didn't attend our last two 1:1 meetings and then laid me off after that. There was never any mention of poor performance so I was shocked when he trashed me in the review. I know it's just to justify laying me off but it's just wrong.

The strategy is to demand a 1:1 with your manager every week and maybe twice a week.

Clearly if you are inconsistently meeting her/his expectations then he/she IS NOT DOING their job of leading you and managing you. You should email the request for 1:1 meetings for their professional guidance. You should also email requests for more work if they are reassigning it. Keep all these in writing. Keep everything your boss sends you, including IMs in writing. Save them to PDF, email them to yourself.

Document Document, and Document more.

They pulled this with me when they were trying to run me off. I finally quit, but before I did I took it to HR and presented evidence that my manager and her manager had a mandate to give low ratings so they could justify laying me off later.

Once the process has started it is unstoppable. There is not a start/stop component. The rest of our careers if we continue to stay will be filled with uncertainty. Layoffs, RIF’s, furloughs, outsourcing, offshoring will be our constant companions. Senior management will be in the same position, so they’ll spend their time covering their behinds. We are soon to be on our own. This whole thing is a finely staged play right out of the corporate playbook. Nothing is left to chance. They’ll slowly gut the company, while trying not to lose the hearts and minds of the employees, until we’re no longer needed, maybe you’ll be the one to turn the lights out. That’s how it works.

I received an inconsistently meets for the first time in 20 years. My manager down played it as though it’s the new norm.

Terming an employee is long process. They don’t want your performance to improve, therefore no tasks timelines or examples… it a way to trim fat for layoffs in November.

Record every bad practices and violations of your manager. Report them to federal agencies. You are protected under Whistleblowing laws.

Why isn't mass media reporting on the fake reviews to go along with the fake interviews and fake accounts. So much fake.

If they know you're going to be laid off, your manager is taking advantage by labeling you as inconsistent. Otherwise, they would need to give it to someone that is not getting paid off. It's just to hit the quota.

My manager is a responsible party for my bad review. Is there any HR recourse? An employee should be able to defend themselves. Enough is enough in this absolutely awful place.

I was on paid administrative leave for 47 days while an investigation was being done. They then come back and state that I am being terminated due to workplace safety? No plan no nothing.

I have been a top performer on every team I've been on here and have had glowing reviews. I fully expect my review tomorrow to be a crapshow. With the stacked rating, I have a feeling I'll be the one on the team who gets sc--wed, despite being the person on the team with the heaviest workload. Like, at least twice as much work as my teammates.
Will then wait with even more bated breath every Tuesday after payday for the walking papers. But if they try and deny me severance, I will be retaining an attorney. They cannot prove I've done anything wrong (because I don't) or am not performing.
Fun times in WF land.

Same boat.✋🏼

It’s a waiting game for sure. I’ve been here 15 years and have been floored by my last two reviews. No PIPs, just “Inconsistently Meets”. It’s weird, funny, and slightly demoralizing. The bottom has to drop out eventually, right?🤷🏻
