Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Location notice: sever, relocate or commute— what if I make no choice?

The outcome of not explicitly choosing one of the three if you’ve been location-noticed is of course severance. WF chooses for you, if you will.

But are there any reasons choosing nothing can work for or against you? Like, maybe the severance takes longer to get activated? Or maybe an employment lawyer would advise do nothing. I don’t know, so that’s why I’m asking.

I actually know a few people who moved without permission hoping they would get displaced. One did, the other guy is still employed. You can’t make this stuff up.

And there's 20k fully remote employees. FOR NOW. Not for long. Same with people "to far" from hubs. There will be a few exceptions. Every company policy has exceptions. But we are in the era of HY using any and every excuse to downsize people and a large majority will be impacted. I know employees that were termed for 'location' that were driving distance (but over 40 mi) from a hub. Volunteering to make the drive or relocate were both denied alternatives.

If you are offered relocation and don’t select anything that is the same as rejecting relocation. The time for when they give you notice will not be affected. You will get notice once the backfills are trained. This is all planned out.

Not who you replied to and all you say makes sense. Location strat is not being done consistently in all LOB.

OP, it sounds like you’re really wondering if displacement happens any different for the person that chooses it on say day 1 of the pre-notice (30 days?) vs displacement by not choosing anything at all. Interesting question. I thought even if you directly choose the displacement, no clock begins immediately… like the manager still has to have a 60 day notice convo and that takes time to tee up procedurally?

jat+1tFI7YwX I don't understand what you're saying. I know multiple people doing lengthy commutes, apartments in hub cities for the three days a week,etc.... What difference does it make and how would that get you fired?

Um, you mean other than turning around and firing you for being to far from a hub? And before you say "but they approved it!" take a look at my offer letter that says I'm fully remote...

I'm confused. I applied for internal mobility, got it and now commute longer than 40 miles to my designated hub..... this was my choice. Pretty sure they can't do a thing about it.

I'm the majority of cases of you're over 40 miles they won't allow you to volunteer for the long commute, nor will they allow you to voluntarily change your work location to a hub. Kinda tells ya it ain't about location, doesn't it? Yep.

FHY. Nothing but liars.

I'm curious if the only option you are given is to drive 1.5 hours to an office, how it will take to get fired if you never go

If you are offered relocation, and choose not to take that option, you would get severance. Your post reads as if you don't get severance if you are offered relocation, and that's not true.

I have read that people who are offered relocation basically aren't given a severance option.
