Why aren't they given an opportunity to volunteer for layoffs? A coworker said he'd be overjoyed to take a package whereas I can't afford to lose my job at this point. We make about the same and have been here about the same length of time. Why can't he go to our manager and say he wants out and maybe save the job of somebody else who desperately needs to stay?

I’m looking locally too. I’m tired of the insurance company games. They are all so unorganized & only care about money period. They make decisions without thinking them through constantly. It’s sickening. The issue is that it’s really hard to find remote jobs that are not with insurance companies. A lot of jobs require a compact license & I cannot get one because my state doesn’t participate. I’ll just keep looking until something comes up.
why not go find something better? I get that the job might be cr-ppy but isn't it better than having no income?
So many people taking VTO every day, routinely, and they're actively begging people to take it. Why not use that as "just cause?"
Believe me, many of us have gone to our managers and said 'Pick Me Please...!!!' and nothing ever comes of it. The company apparently needs something against people like using mouse wigglers, being at the top of the pay scale or something so if the riffed person decides to sue, the company has something to push back with.
I personally can not stand the anxiety anymore of being a remote worker. I was hired 6 years ago as remote only they should make it permanent. I don’t have a local pulse point in over 100miles. I am updating my resume and applying for positions locally that offer hybrid/remote. It would be a bit of a pay cut but it’s better than being on a temporary approval as a remote worker and never being promoted/move without additional approval waivers. I love my job here and my team but I need reassurance that I won’t be RIFd on a random Thursday too. I know we would get unemployment/grace period in the case of RIF. I would rather secure a position now locally and not compete when other people for jobs when layoffs hit all insurance companies too.
Because that would give the employee the power. The company will NOT have that.
