Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

This is a sinking ship and no one is safe

My group was told we were safe for a year after the last horrid layoffs. But most of my team got it this round. Including myself. Years of loyalty and faithfulness gutted in one phone call filled w at least 100 others. Sick way to do it. Cowards. This is a sinking ship and no one is safe. Don’t believe a word they say. The town halls are legit lies so they can hang on to what is left until the next round. Please be careful. Get your affairs together. If it could happen to us, a group inundated with work, it can happen to you. No matter how much work you have, you are not ok. This post is not coming from anger, it comes from sadness for all that was let go and to all I still deeply care about who were not affected. Yet.

Good advice, @3zbb+1tzQiE4h. We should all keep this in mind at all times, and have no expectations whatsoever from this place.

Windstream as a company is like watching an old friend get hooked on dr-gs and there is nothing you can do to help. Poor decision after poor decision has enabled this old friends down fall. BB at the head of field operations is the head dealer and the local management pushes his product. It’s sad but unfortunately the outcome is inevitable.

The ship is sinking because the tide is changing to a more diverse group of entitled younger generation employees. Just look at Stream, I don’t see any employees that are seasoned in the group photos. They are considered confrontational , toxic, hostile and just miserable because they know how good things used to be and how well the company was run years ago. Windstream is definitely trying to change the culture and separate themselves from those types of employees.

Really says a lot that you have to figure out what’s worse, a gap in employment history on a resume or admitting you worked here for ten years!! Are you from HR?

The problem some of us in the rural areas don't have much of a choice but also when you have w/s on your resume employers arent beating the door down and you cant leave it off or theres a gap you have to explain

It’s weird how people will stay around and cling to a sinking ship like this. I did the same thing until they walked me out a few years ago. And only then did I go job seeking and took like six months to land my current position. It’s almost shocking because I was offered three bucks more an hour to start and I’m actually treated like an adult at work. I actually look forward to our team meetings every week. My manager, an actual qualified manager, doesn’t require any kind of activity report because he is in constant contact with team leads who, communicate with him daily and on top of that, I can expect a weekly phone call to discuss my contribution to the team/projects. I look forward to these calls every week. My first review resulted in a 3 percent raise. The last two have both been 5 percenters:-). So for those of you still clinging, the suggestions here to get your affairs in order and find a different employer should be taken seriously! You’ll be so much happier. Work can be a grind no matter where you’re employed, but it is way easier to go through with a company that treats people with respect and makes you feel like you are part of the success story. Huge difference. Good luck all…

Nobody has ever really been safe. Those sentiments have been echoed here for years. I'm not sure what group you're in or thought was safe but only people that are safe sit in their towers in Arkansas in an executive office for now. All these team/group wikis will house how to do your jobs and the few that remain will most likely be hoaxed into training theirs and your replacement. One thing you are right about is the leadership there are cowards. Afraid to face anyone there with any hard questions while touting about accountability. Jeff Gardner was the last one with any guts to face employees.
