Goodyear cutting positions at Akron headquarters, sending 175 jobs to Costa Rica

Goodyear said it plans to move "175 roles supporting our Americas business and corporate functions to a new Goodyear location in Costa Rica."

when they opened the new HQ and remodeled the Tech Center, there wasn't an empty desk in either building. And what happened to the job count they were supposed to maintain to get the new building!

All of those jobs were in Finance & IT, they were just part of wave one. More offshoring coming soon to other business units.

That’s interesting on the loss of revenue for Akron. There was a 500 headcount reduction in 2023, then this year 125, 175 and the sell off of Off Road. Call it 1,000 less jobs. Average salary of $125,000 times the 2.5% rate. That’s $3.125M annually. PLUS now we occupy about half of the building. There are floors and areas just completely empty. I fear we are just slowly sinking…gulp.

I wonder over the last 2 years how much tax revenue the city of Akron has lost due to Goodyear cuts. I bet they are reconsidering building that cost black hole.
