Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Working for a large corporation is no longer a good or safe way to earn a living in America

Many large corporations have recently exhibited ruthlessness when it comes to creating profits and value for shareholders. Cigna is a prime example of this and puts on a hypocritical facade that pretends to care for its members and employees when all it cares about is making money at any cost. Working for a large corporation is no longer a good or safe way to earn a living in America. I've worked for smaller companies that provide better benefits and pay to their employees. The only reason I came to Cigna was for WFH years before covid. Now that it's at risk, I have been actively looking to leave.

Well said, @2obm+1sXI9m7w.

As someone who studied business in a traditional American University, I recognize the names mentioned in the below comments. I am sadden that Cigna "who I thought was better than all of this" has stooped so low. Cigna is in a very unique industry and position where it can benefit many Americans and people world wide to make the overall quality of life "Vitality" better. In addition to this, Cigna used to be a strong supporter of sharing it's profits by compensating employees an above average wage to live and support the American Dream. Rather than "do that", it prefers to squeeze profit out of every orifice it can get away with to benefit it's shareholders. Greed has taken over Cigna and the stench of it is overwhelming.

“ only an economist or a socialist/communist would know that name”
Or maybe someone who is sick of watching all the money go to the top and wondering what happened to the middle class and why everything is so damn expensive and started doing research into how the USA went from having the worlds strongest middle class to one in which all of us not in the top 2% are on the verge of ruin. Capitalism is great as long as its tide raises all boats, not just the yachts. Otherwise things fall apart quick and people like the OP start to get disillusioned and society loses buy in. Corporations can and should do better.

Sadly this is the exact realization I've come to. There is no longer a perk of 'job stability' with a large company.

It’s been like this since the late 1989s and you can blame Milton Friedman for the idea that corporations have no duty other than delivering profit to shareholders and Jack Welch for implementing this garbage philosophy.

FWIW I am actively looking to leave too.
