Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Declining Vitality

FOW is negatively impacting my vitality by adding stress, anxiety, anger and depression to my day. I am adding medical, behavioral and pharmaceutical expenses to Cigna. It has disrupted my 12 year WAH schedule. I can no longer walk with neighborhood friends early in the morning, attend yoga immediately after work, and grab a little sunshine midday. YET 95% my co-workers have had no disruption to their life. Make this make sense.

Depends on your skillset. I'm an experienced developer and most places pay $110-140k for that where I live... And I live in an area known for lower wages. It's justified by the previously low housing costs. I say "previously" because the cost of living has more than tripled here in the last 10 years. (One reason I want to move.)

If you live in a more expensive area like NY or CA or can land a FAANG job - expect waaaay more. I had to fight tooth and claw to even get a $90K salary out of Cigna over the last few years. I can't afford to live anywhere remotely near their office in the fancy part of the state with that. Yet, I'm aligned to an office there anyway.

So, yeah, skilled tech workers can absolutely do better than here pay-wise.

In CT the worker has to be working in CT more than 50% of the time to be classified as a CT worker. Hence the original FOW policy, and part of the reason for the FOW crackdown. That tax break requires workers in CT more often, but considering it comes with the fringe “benefit” of people quitting so severance doesn’t have to be paid out, they are perfectly fine to force people in when it makes no business sense whatsoever. Vitality for the enterprise, not its employees!!! F this place!

Many large cooperation's have recently exhibited a ruthlessness when it comes to creating profits and value for shareholders. Cigna is a prime example of this and puts on a hypocritical facade that pretends to care for it's members and employees when all it cares about is making money ay any cost. Working for a large cooperation is no longer a good or safe way to earn a living in America. I've worked for smaller companies that provide better benefits and pay to their employees. The only reason I came to Cigna was for WFH years before covid. Now that it's at risk, I have been actively looking to leave.

Oh you poor thing @1yya+1sXI9m7w , I wish I knew you so I can give you some company for a walk . But just try and make connections and try to talk to someone in office. Tak to your manager and go for lunch with your team or anyone who is aligned to you. Office should be the last place to feel lonely .

It is super demoralizing to be forced into an office without anyone on your team.

I sit and read their propaganda about meaningful connections, sense of belonging, new and deeper relationships, and become very sullen and disengaged at the reality of things. Zero of that is happening here.

I cry in the bathroom every day I am
In the office because it is lonely (no one on my team is here and others are too busy to give me the time of day) and I am overwhelmed with work because I don’t have the extra couple hours to get more done now that I commute. At least at home I could work longer hours and my cats and dog were in the room for emotional support. FOW is breaking me.

As entitled as the OP sounds, they are doing the exact kind of stuff Cigna is pushing as part of “Vitality.” But the Vitality effort is just marketing to make us sound like we got rizz and actuarial hope that if some customers get slightly more vital their claims will drop. If every customer had one less claim a year, Cordani could buy another 3 houses and we all know how important that is.

Point is Cigna is hypocritical and doesn’t care about the damage it does to employee morale and health by taking away benefits. I may not have been doing yoga, but now that I am back in office my house is a mess, I am constantly tired, and I am further behind at work because I lose 3 hours a day in a car in a stressful drive and I spend the day in a distracting office with terrible lighting that give me splitting headaches.

It is what it is so I’m not looking for solutions. But I used to love Cigna now I hate it.

Yeah I can't believe everyone is taking this at face value when it's clearly razzing on the 27749595 emails from HR that we have to endure cheerfully insisting that if we meditate with enough mindfulness and join enough peloton challenges that our Vitality Index Score will go up, while also insisting that it's imperative that we spend hours driving to an office to webex with coworkers that are scattered around the country

The point is that Cigna stresses vitality for their patients and their employees. Cigna is taking away the flexibility that contributes to their employee's vitality. They are “preaching” vitality but not living up to it.

Lol Thanks, but after doing the math on gas, car depreciation, and just what I feel like my time is worth, it's really that not much of a raise. Much rather not deal with commuting to a far away city with unbelievably bad traffic. Oh well, could be worse. Tons of places hiring out that way. On the other hand, I've been wanting to move for years now. Being locked into an office job somewhere will make that much harder. That's actually my biggest concern, TBH.

Yeah, it's more that Cigna is electing to drop the few things that made it a competitive and worthwhile employer. Most companies pay 30-40% more for my skillset in the city they aligned me to. And it's a he-l of a drive for me. So, if they don't want to bump me up that much in salary (and they clearly won't) there's no reason for me to work here once they eventually try and force me in.

Those of us who work from home don’t have it much better. Aside from the commute, which I acknowledge is a huge hassle, we are heavily monitored to ensure we are strapped to our desks for 40 hours a week.

I am very sorry that you can no longer walk with your friends in the morning, get sunshine mid day, and attend your 4:00 yoga class.

I had to miss my community’s spritzer and charcuterie event last week due to being in the office, so I feel your pain.

It is likely that I will have to increase my cymbalta dosage in order to cope with fow.
