I’m curious, and please forgive my ignorance - does mid-year reports with managers mean you can get a raise or what is exactly the intention of this?

It's pointless and a waste of time.
Over the last 20 years, we've had midyears in varying degrees, in some cases including the complete battle over the ratings quotas (which they tell you don't exist ha ha), we've not had them at all, or had what we had now. Can you say any of that really made a difference to you? They're just doing what the latest overpaid consultancy they hired is telling them to do.
If someone is doing a bad job, you tell them and don't wait for a formal process. Likewise if they are doing a great job. Otherwise don't be a supervisor. Everything else is BS.
“Who said you're getting a mid-year report?”
ROFL.
Anyways, no. Your mid-year is usually just peer feedback and a summary of your accomplishments up to this point in the year.
What you’ve been working on, highlights, etc.
It can go into you getting a raise at the end of the year if peer feedback is positive etc, but no you don’t get one mid-year usually unless you’re changing positions or getting a promotion.
it's just a check in on how you are doing towards your goals so you arent in the dark as you progress through the year. If your manager is good it will be helpful, if not, it's completely meaningless. no you cant get a raise at midyear
