Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Duration Logs

Starting this month they have added LAN duration times to the attendance reporting. Leaderships expectation is 8 hours per day, at a minimum 24 hours per week. Less than 24 hours per week will trigger supervisor review.

Presence Reporting is still blank. It has been that way for months.

“ I doubt this post is true. But either way. I go to the office Monday through Wednesday. I leave my laptop on the network all Monday and Tuesday nights. Let them track the hours. I’ll look like a star.”

Unless you sleep at the office or have a private one with a locking door, you may rather look like someone violating policy for leaving your company equipment unsecured.
Might want to read up on that policy before it’s too late.

"Pretty sure setting and requiring hours violates the manager exempt status for most states."

I couldn't find any evidence that this is true. Apparently there are a few states that require tracking of hours for both exempt and non exempt.

“Before I left T (best move I made), someone was talking to our team about pulling Wi-Fi logs. It didn’t go very far, but this was several years ago. While I was there, I had a VPN gateway device which they couldn’t tell whether I was local or remote when accessing it through it. That’s the best deal. Of course it didn’t cover badge swipes. I can’t even remember why I was given it now, some emergency NDA project which needed 24/ 7 support I think.”

It’s very easy to also make your own vpn gateway as well.

The people post this misinformation are probably union folk, HR, or business people in Dallas just trying to be toxic.

Not technical folk, tech naïve people most likely.

People in the know on how these at systems work know it’s gonna be basically impossible for them to track time via laptops unless they develop or contract out some new software and push them to Windows & Macs and even then I don’t think it would work well.

Speaking of duration logs. They are also tracking how long it takes you to take a dump. So that guy sitting in the stall with the motion lights off is in trouble.

Fake news. I’m an exempt employee.
Of course, they could track hours and if you’re not going 8 a day, they could just dump more work on you assuming you need more.

"Pretty sure setting and requiring hours violates the manager exempt status for most states. I’d be happy to change to an hourly employee. Happy to get paid 4 hours for responding to an email after hours, double time for working a holiday, all those night and weekend hours. Please do, I’d double my salary. "

This is why the RTO documentation doesn't mention time in office at all

They knew how long you were connected to VPN years ago, They used to monitor that.

They have a system that logs all MAC address plugged into the network. It scans the switches and pulls the MAC address connected to the interface. It is called MACDADDY.

People keep posting disinformation posts like this but they never go into detail on how this is being accomplished.

Macs can’t even be pinged, at all…or other devices only Windows laptops.

When I see evidence this is the case and documentation as well as how it’s being accomplished then I’ll believe it, and promptly find a way around it.

This company has turned into a factory where you get paid only for your time on the clock, clock-in and clock-out for your pay. That will hurt morale, cohesiveness, productivity, ambition and determination! The only ambition employees will have will be to find another employer ASAP! What a cluster this company has become, God help us all! I'm so happy I'm on the brink of retirement!

it is absolutely true. when this is rolled out, you'll be able to see how long you were in the office, through a combination of badge scan and network connectivity.

also, political affiliation monitoring is coming up next. the team wants to know if you wear red vs lbgtq clothing. temperature sensors will detect if you have a fever and that will be the only way you can submit for a sick day without being flagged by HR. check ATS in the workplace, the pdfs are there.

I'm a supervisor. I can tell you that they are using LAN as a method to determine if you were in the office that day. The published report does not currently measure employees against how long they were in the office. That's not to say that it won't happen in the near future.
