Out of country on surplus date

What happens if I’m out of the country on PTO on my surplus date? Does AT&T fill out paperwork for me? Is it ok if my COU and laptop are not returned until after I get back from vacation (which might be a few weeks after my LDOP)?

I did not get to go to my God Mothers funeral the day I had to turn in my PC keys, etc. I was very hurt.

Turn your ID and laptop in on your way out the door. Have a good vacation.

Definitely have a conversation with your manager/supervisor. Let them know you will be out of the country during that time, if you know or feel you will be surplused.
There is an internal link to the return depot for your laptop. If you’re not sure about that link, go to your supervisor and get it. Or ask them to email you a return label for the laptop (or have a box/label/packing kit sent to your home address) and a return label for the COU device as well. Have your supervisor email both labels to you as well, and if you have your own packing supplies, you can just use those. They go to two different locations. There are forms as well when you leave you are asked to sign as a standard practice. You will need to fill out when you leave as well. Perhaps you could do those ahead of time with your supervisor. I would advise leaving a personal phone number and email with your supervisor so they can contact you and make you aware you were officially affected. Leave your home address as well in case they have to send you a packing kit and label for the laptop. The easier you make it for them, the smoother it should go. You should be able to send the laptop and COU device back when you return generally, but ask your boss. Always hold onto both tracking numbers and make sure that you confirm they got to their destination, as people will frequently come back and state you didn’t return them- unless you prove confirmation of receipt.

HR here. Make sure to fill out your pre-surplus paperwork. You’ll provide your updated mailing address and contact info and establish credentials needed for “former employee” access. Attend a session. It takes around 45 days to cut the severance payment. So you’ll have a week or so to box up your laptop and phone and ship. Make sure to order those boxes and labels. Sorry for all of the hassle, our CEO and senior leadership team get paid millions and we can’t afford to pay for techs, engineers, care reps, sales reps or business account reps to help customers “reach out and touch someone”. Enjoy your vacation! You earned it. Thank you for everything you do.

If it was only somebody in your chain of command that could answer this question for you better than random folks on a message board.. oh your boss!

What a dilemma. My guess would be you either return it before you leave or when you get back. But it almost seems like a problem with no solution. They will probably keep you on payroll indefinitely.
