Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Where is everyone applying?

I was looking at US bank but salaries were too low. Citi just seems like a sh-t show right now. Where is everyone applying?

US Bank is a disaster, worked there for 2 years before coming to the stagecoach. Salaries are lower and when I was there the chief compliance officer was caught lying to the OCC and was fired. Their Charlotte office, where I worked, was ok, but overall I didn’t like it. WF is better (hard to say that lol).

US Bank is years behind on nearly everything tech and product related. Every aspect of trying to get work done is needlessly complex. They are still using capex funding. As bad as agile is at WF, it's exponentially worse at US Bank. Avoid.

Don't listen to 1kli+1rxf7kCR, people should not sacrifice their career just because they need cash desperately. Go find a good job that makes sense in your career path.

OP needs to learn basic math.

salaries too low is always greater than zero salary.

@qwj+1rxf7kCR, I once worked with an SVP who came from US Bank. I don't know where to start, but he was the most corrupt leader who absolutely had no moral whatsoever. Maybe that says something about the culture of US Bank. By the way, he is still here at Wells Fargo.

Yes. Not saying WF is great, just that U.S. Bank is a disaster. The only thing U.S. Bank is good at is public relations.
Knock-off version of WF with lower pay and backwards technology. At least WF doesn't pretend to be ethical.
Just stay far away if you know what's best for you.

@afr you’re right. Charlotte is literally going to blow up soon because of all the people who move for opportunity. It’s a reshuffling of major metropolitan cities in America. Your best bet is to move to one or switch industries all together.

What’s so bad about US bank? Can it really be worse than here?

As someone who has been in Banking for 25+ years - and has worked at PNC, Wachovia, Wells and another bank that prefers to remain anonymous, I would agree with the people who are saying to get out of Banking. The reason to get into banking many years ago was because of the holidays, stability and opportunities. And when you got old, you could maybe find a nice place to hide where you didn't have to do too much actual work. I would argue that the only one of those things that still is in play is the Holidays. Large banks have become soul-su-king sh!! shows mired in compliance and risk BS, no opportunities, constant threat of layoffs, run by jargon-spewing corporate drones. Try to find a smaller non-public company.

I've been with wf for 6 years, and the way things are ending (non core location), I have no plans to stay in finance/banking when I get let go. Where? I haven't decided but do hope everyone who has been impacted finds what they are looking for both compensation and work/life balance. Best of luck!

US Bank contacted me many years ago and wanted me to consider a job paying less than 1/2 of what I was making. US Bank pay is very low in comparison to WF.

Banking and finance are difficult to get into right now. Jumping sectors might be necessary.

All the quant jobs I know are hiring for H1B workers instead of me, all the tech teams are outsourced.

I don't know what I am doing wrong, and they say the economy is better than ever.

Truist or Ally Bank both based in Charlotte. Yes Ally home office is Detroit but bank headquarters is in Charlotte. Typically with these smaller banks you will need to move up in responsibility to get the same salary you are getting from WF but not always.

I would not even waste my time looking at Banks. There are so many other positions with many other good companies out that are not Banks.

Apart from OP, for anyone thinking of applying at U.S. Bank. Avoid U.S. Bank like the plague. You have been warned.
