Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Impact Notifications

Was told today my position is impacted by the location strategy and details of the impact will be shared prior to the end of Q2. No other details given. Thank you for the information. I guess I will 'wait and see'.

Anyone else get this information from their direct manager?

All you have to do is some research on Relocation on Teamworks. There are documents out there that outline what happens if you relocate and then are laid off. If that happens within a year, you can have the company (the Firm) move you back on their dime. If you leave on your own within that first year, they have the ability to claw back the money from the relocation. So you are guaranteed a year.

OP here, I haven't been able to post comments, but apparently I can now...
No details were given - my boss said all he was told was my "role" was impacted and that more details would be given by the end of Q2.

I will not relocate - I live 100 miles from the office but am in the state of the main hub office. Not one single person I deal with on a daily basis is in that office. I've been 100% remote since I was hired. I have no idea what "impacted means" so I guess I wait. I won't quit, if they are going to torpedo my career, they are going to pay me for it.

This is discrimination in my eyes. You don't live in the city, so you can't work here.

I would not move on my own dime.

Even if it's paid, like some responses said, you can be impacted after you moved. How long? 2 months? 4 months? half year ... ? If you are lucky 1+ years? You don't know.

So, one's forced to stay to the bitter end.

company wants you to commit to moving but they won't commit to not laying you off. For those being offered relocation, I'd be curious if there is a y language on in the documents around you. it being laid off for at least 1 or 2 years if you do. I know in the last when I relocated for an opportunity with the bank. I had to commit to at least a year or return my relocation funds.

Internally, HR is saying that this is to increase transparency. The dirty secret is they’re afraid they won’t have enough severance/relocation money and they’re trying to increase natural “attrition”

Don’t do them any favors. Stay until the bitter end. Take the severance. Get a new job.

They are laying off in hubs too. So why move for a company that could care less! They will be out of non-hub locations by end of 2025. We have to become Chase, look at the newest exec that’s reports to chainsaw… Chase! Once he turns WF into Chase he will leave.

I was told last July that I would be impacted by end of 2024. I’m still waiting. Ridiculous!

OP, may I ask what location you’re at? What state?

That's a sh*t way to communicate that message. They should at least give you an idea of what that means-- paid relo? relo on your own dime? no-relo and you get severance?

And it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they relocated people then laid them off months later. Can you imagine if somebody disrupted their lives enough to move then lost their job.

IDK, OP but,

when this happened to my department, people were given notice they were impacted. It meant anyone on notice was waiting to have someone pull the trigger on a date. There were two dates: 1. move to X by X date on your own dime. 2. chose not to do #1 and your last day is X date. They were told to accept or decline within a certain timeframe like a week or two (not sure). Some claimed they would move (lied) bc that date was beyond the #2 date, allowing more time to look for a job/keep insurance.

At least you have some information and closure now. So many of us are still waiting in limbo.
