Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

My Coworkers Deserved Better

Several of my coworkers were suddenly let go this morning with no advanced notice.
One was about to go on maternity leave.
One was on vacation, to return tomorrow.
One has been with WF for years and has a vast knowledge of our systems.
I will be honest, some of the people who were let go today may not have been pulling their weight around here - but I know of several who were let go who were active contributors and very valuable.
I am very sorry to all of my co-workers who discovered they were losing their job today. They deserved better.

OP here again - I have more to say.
If the only thing you can critique is that so many people upvoted my post, I'm not sure where the issue is. If you sincerely believe I upvoted my own post 50+ times, you are delusional. I don't know which part of my post is offensive or unbelievable to you, nor do I know why you felt compelled to make assumptions about me but I hope you can find some happiness one day. Bye!

I call BS on this 7th grade creative writing attempt. And why did the OP upvote his own post so many times?

Hopefully ALL of the "Wish It Was Me" posters on here got their wishes fulfilled!

YOU ALL deserve what you wished for, hopefully it was ONLY YOU that caught the axe!

You don't get it, do you? No one is holding the corporation hostage. If the people with the vast knowledge had left on their own, I would not "be in the same position" because they would be the ones making that choice. It's the blindsiding of my coworkers that smarts, you ignorant cow.
Side note: there will be no "opportunities" because their positions were eliminated. No backfills.
Those of you who think it is okay for a corporation to treat it's workers that way need help.

Which areas in remediation?

Anyone who thinks they are working for their Uncle and is blindsided by being let go for any reason by a corporation is an absolute fool. You have been placated into thinking time in service means anything to anyone.

Unless retiring, every single one of you who feels “owed” is going to get a hard dose of reality out there in the open job market.

So what? The folks with so called vast knowledge could have left on their own for other pastures and you would be in the same situation. Should the company be held hostage ? Others will step up or others will now have a path to promotion. This same belly whining is getting tiresome. We all know WF execs are going to downsize. The company has to downsize , we are all casualties. Don’t like it, start your own business.

It is horrible, but let's reverse that. Should someone keep their job just because they are pregnant? Apparently someone has to go.

"It does su-k but it's been well known that you don't get any notice before you are sentence. No time to even say goodbyes"

well, yes and no.. you have to be 'prepared'.

When I got whacked (first thing in the morning), I had time to do my out of office message and change my message on IM (skype) before I was finally locked out. (8:30-10:15?), before my zz complete.

Horrible to let someone go right before maternity leave. So sorry to hear about your colleagues.

Witnessed this reality over the last couple years. A corporate job is one only based on a paycheck (regardless if that $ amount is good, bad or so-so) as a reward for your time being rented. Note it doesn't matter how well that time is spent or what value you specifically have. A corporate job applies a broad paint brush to its workers. It simply is too expensive to pay attention to the individual and reward accordingly.

Looking beyond the paycheck for more substance or engangement is a fool's errand.

It is easy to see how the physical and low-skilled workers are taken advantage of and why over history there have been tons of uprisings/strikes, unions, layoffs, etc. How many times has an automotive plant closed in the Midwest and moved jobs to Mexico?

With knowledge based jobs, it becomes murkier and the guise of opportunity catches us off guard. A lot of us are paid just enough to not complain, just enough to not want to move the needle in a positive direction for ourselves. We don't put up a fight.

Corporations profit from this situation, we are disposable assets. We are all the equivalent of a stripper dancing with those soulless zombie eyes, wondering about a better life to be had.
