Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Not going to make it

haven’t got over last week’s bruising. now get ready for another week of fight, to survive, don't think I’m gonna hold. Just wanna do an honest job, learn good things, share what I know, earn respect of ones i work with who are worthy of respect themselves. but I’ll fail to do simple god honest work that I know I can. Maybe not tomorrow but another one of these days surely. I’ll fail. the box tickers will come for me. They are circling like vultures. They have taken others in my team.

Or you get "performance managed" and get a sh---y rating no matter what you do - you manager has an order from his/her leaders to push you out.

(Basically, and usually, you'll be asked to do impossible things, and when you fail, you "did not meet" expectations. That simple.)

OK, thing are bad, and "efficiency" is used as a "reason" to reduce head count.

  1. Don't do stupid s----! Don't get emotional and do things that would get you fired.
  2. If you plan to leave, be quiet!
  3. If you have tenure, its probably better if you wait and get a severance package. Unless you find something that pay much higher, the 60 day WARN $$ plus severance is usually a better deal.
  4. If the job market is not good (like now), it's also better to wait.
  5. Don't burn yourself out. Don't enable someone to burn you out. Take care of you. Wells won't.
  6. If you can, learn new skills (but this can be hard for someone with family responsibilities, like me.)
  7. Don't overthink it. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
  8. If it hits you, make sure you carefully go over the displacement paperwork. If you need to, hire an attorney. Not to sure Wells, but to see if there are things you need to watch out for.
  9. Related to #5 - do your best daily, but respect #5.

Be mindful of any sudden emotional thoughts when you are hit, or when co-workers close to you are hit. A level headed person always is better.

Don't bad mouth Wells with something that can be track back to you.

I'm proud of several of you. @@kze+1rB0Qent is an example. They are right - if there's money on the table get the severance. Find an employment attorney if needed. Don't use their bogus legal services benefit, employment attorney's aren't covered (makes plenty of sense).

I have an interview with a different company on Wednesday. Fingers crossed. I'm not going to sit around and wait for the ax.

I feel the same slow death in my role. I’ve been in my organization for 22 years, 15 remote. I’ve tried to get other jobs in the company for a few years, told that I’m highly qualified, a great fit, extremely knowledgeable, have a unique skill set, but “no” because I won’t move to a hub. I continue to see my work given away. The writing is on the wall that my current role will be moved to a hub or eliminated. I’ve considered looking outside the company, but at this point… I want my severance package. I’ll just have to tolerate the BS until then. Maybe take some more courses to brush up my skills for the next career move.

Be smart, don't get pushed out of the stagecoach unless it's with a bag of severance money. Even newcomers will get 8 weeks minimum severance pay and that's after the 60-days of paid non-working leave (means you're still an employee, just status=leave).

I was displaced last fall, happily collecting my severance and enjoying peaceful time off. Just accepted an offer with a remote only position (IT prof svcs), since I am no where close to a WF HUB. My offer was 15% higher than WF salary. There ARE better jobs out there. But don't leave $$ on the WF table. They owe you after all you invested.

I was the highest performer in the group of 17 we had in tech, and they sent me on my way. Working hard means nothing at this co.
