I am new working only a few months since graduating.
Many of these posts talk about high blood pressure from stress. Is this an exaggeration or are people really getting physically sick from their work?
As a youngster, this is making me terrified of my future.

And a lot of it is because the medical plan is so bad, that people don't even get treatments untll things like this get really bad. Make sure when you do your virtual doctor visit that they keep promoting as the way of the future, you tell your doctor in who knows where that you think you might have high blood pressure and have them prescribe something.
Don't let AT&T bother you. Just relax and tell your boss to get off your back
I do muay thai kick boxing and Brazilian jujitsu. That helps get a lot of stress out, lose weight and meet people. The job is stressful.
Yes, blood pressure is real thing. It indicates that you are alive.
Exercise, dietary improvement, supplements & embrace some stoic principles (eg - dichotomy of control, etc.).
Absolutely. I left T for this very reason.. started having irregular EKGs, had to start going to a cardiologist.. all stress related. It’s very real and it’s extra bad at T.
40% of Americans are obese and another 32% are over weight. Start there.
At&t = under paid if you aren't an a-s kisser and way over stressed. The company let's you create capacity by overworking yourself thinking you are getting somewhere. Do not give more than you have to. At&t is a joke.
Heart surgeons in Dallas love AT&T and Dallas has the best doctors that couldn’t find work in a decent place to live.
Welcome to the jungle, it gets worse here everyday
Get out now, while you are young. The damage done to you here will be long lasting.
Yes, prescribed Metoprolol as of last month due to this toxic work structure.
If you have high BP in your 20’s or 30’s, you need to fix your diet
This is not WebMd.
Well, depending on how one handles stress has something to do with it, as for me, I didn't. I didn't mind following rules, but rules that didn't make sense, that seemed to appear out of thin air, that wasn't even explained, just edicts, didn't sit well with me. And, the 24x7x365 nature of some positions, and, for a while - for no logical reason long commutes...
About 2 months after I was surplus'd in 2019, I had lost 30 lbs without even thinking I was doing anything different. It's still off. Managers can make a huge difference, and I had a lot of good ones. But even with a position you enjoy, a great management team, the constant ever-present of layoffs really wears on one's soul over time. The older we get, the harder it becomes.
Take care.
Sitting around in my truck doing nothing all day. Gaining weight. AT&T's fault.
@bje+1rA6bFh9 Make time. Lame excuses.
Just having to look at, let alone hear the diarrhea come out of the Stink's mouth, will make you sick!
Keeping the stress down and staying active will go a long ways to keeping all that at bay. However, as you get older (age, married, kids, family responsibilities) that stress will compound at home and at work. The longer you work the more responsibilities you will get. The older your kids get the more stuff they have. Basically the sedentary stuff kicks in because you won’t have time to do much between your job and family.
Yes, stress and anxiety can cause high blood pressure. Not to worry, they have medication for those issues, factor that into your cost of working here. Resolve yourself to change for change’s sake and don’t try to reason anything out, become numb to it all, follow like a sheep and you will do fine here. That is up until you break the age barrier or near any retirement benefits that may be left then, be prepared to be jettisoned like yesterday’s trash. Advise you to save as much as possible until that day comes. Good luck, youngster.
Who refers to themselves as a "youngster"?
This post is hilarious.
Forget about the high-blood pressure that you can control, I would be more worried about the Lexipro or Prozac
Beet juice powder bro.
A lot of that is coming from middle-aged people who are sedentary. So is it the stress or the lack of physical activity? Take time on evenings and weekends to walk, run, or generally just get outdoors and it will address stress, blood pressure, and expanding waist.
Run away quickly little girl. ATT is he-l and you deserve better
You should be good the first few years. Lots of Booze and Snow will help take the edge off.
You will be fine! Just don’t trust any of your coworkers or bosses and don’t let anyone get comfortable with you or they will use it to sabotage and diminish you. Good luck.
