Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

This place is filled with bad managers with hidden agendas

Instead of making our work easier, they're making it harder and I can't figure out why. It can't be just incompetence. There's gotta be something else going on with this.

Manager only care about the numbers and their bonuses! They could care less about you doing a good job and making your job easier by helping with roadblocks! When I first started long time ago, managers had technical experience in the field and knew the job now most are clueless. Have no clue what the job is entailed it’s only about the numbers and spreadsheets…..sad way to manage

yep this the truth and is what started my exit. put under a manager that was nothing but a sh-t disturber to get people mad and then their vp was a lawyer and this was a technical organization and the vp had no technical experience just law.

att is a cesspool and the worse of the worse company.

I hope anybody thinking of working there just run and don't look back you will be much better off without this cesspool of a company.

Step aside and let a more capable more committed more result oriented employee charge this hill that you've already lost.

Some managers don’t last very long supervising outside craft in specials. I think it’s because they lack basic knowledge of carrier circuits, T1’s, ethernet, bvoip, routers, fiber, pseudowire, Ds0’s and just about anything besides inside wire. Maybe if they read a book about the telephone company they wouldn’t lose their job because they look d-mb all the time. AT&T is a technical company.

Everyone is now only out to make themselves look good in the hopes they won’t be cut. That means no one is a team player any more and making anyone else’s job harder doesn’t matter to them as long as they look good. Get out while you can. Alternatively, keep your head down, take them for all the free training and experience you can get for your resume, and hang on until they pay you to leave.

Anyone who thinks their managers job is to make their job easier is a worthless employee.

You are there to make their job easier.
You make your job easier by doing it well.
You make more money by performing better than anyone on your team.
You are responsible for you.

If you don’t have a positive relationship with your manager, you’re not going anywhere in this company, or any company.

I actually can’t stand people like you, but you sure make it easy for people like me to succeed. Thanks!

Here’s something you haven't figured out. Your job is to make your manager look good. If you aren’t doing that, you’re not doing your job.

Some managers don't support their direct reports at all! They never respond to their emails nor do they respond to voice mail! Managers like this are not even worth having because they do nothing to assist when assistance is necessary!

A manager is responsible for the performance of his direct reports. There are two kinds of direct reports, those who get the manager into trouble, and those who don't.

I was always the latter kind, so, I had no problems with managers. Never had a letter.
