I was laid off 12/1/23. Recd lump severance payment 1/5/24. The entire payment was rescinded on 1/9 with ZERO CONTACT. Called 1/9 and got the run-around until finally someone said there was an unspecified “known issue.” No further details available. Then today at 5:30 I get a message saying to call back, they have more details, but I call back immediately and everything says “We’re closed. Call back tomorrow.” WTF IS GOING ON???? I knew the place was going to be a s*** show once all the experienced people left, but this takes the cake.

they cannot get the money back unless they legally go after you which, in most cases, is not worth it.
That's why I was transferring the money out of whatever account they were deposited to the moment I could. I don't even have that bank account anymore. I don't trust T.
Should have made them pay you in cash.
Maybe if you don’t have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut in a forum designed to help people during a stressful period in their careers.
Maybe you can eat my @$$.
When someone elects direct deposit, there is verbiage in there stating the company can recall the funds if overpaid. Someone realized the error, recalled the funds as quickly as possible so that the (former) employee would not move the funds to another account. If that happens, they cannot get the money back unless they legally go after you which, in most cases, is not worth it.
Just talked to someone. They said the move from Workday caused it. It payed us double minus the tax. Then I will get an email for next steps.
also 12/1 layoff. same thing happened to me except it was an overpayment. i'm not sure if that's the reason why your severance payment was reversed
I wonder if the "known issue" is due to the cr-ppy rollout of Workday.
Were you complying with RTO last year?
To answer a few of the questions, yes, they took the money out of my account. They reversed the direct deposit. I did accept the severance agreement on time. I followed the checklist they gave us meticulously, and the only “negative” thing I’ve done other than posting here with this question is switch to T-Mobile. I’ve since heard it’s also happened to others and we’re all in the dark. I’m looking here for information from people who might be in the know.

Haha. Same thing happened to me. Please keep me posted.
They went into my house when I was out and they found the check, took the check back.
Maybe take a class on English grammar.
They took the money out of your account?
Talk with your union rep. Lol'n.
They laid off almost all of hr for the new workday system
Check must have bounced we are broke
Did you decline the offer and submit as instructed by the deadline? Or initially accept, then decline after the drop dead date? Or is it possible not everyone is eligible for the severance or you received more than you were entitled (salary, service anniv, etc)? Likely none of these, but curious what went wrong.
Please keep us posted.
Cool story
What do you mean what was I doing? I was in HR until I was laid off, but why should that matter?
Didn’t some numbskull post that everything at T was just fine ?
What were you doing?
