This is a sinkhole

Some here wonder why old timers like me say we're sticking around till the company pays us to leave. Well, my job is easy, I get loads of paid time off, get paid well, and my contract says I'll get two years pay so I'll wait for that. Every three months some get it. Many of my coworkers/friends have got it. I most likely will too.
On one hand I agree with the mindset of awaiting a severance payout. On the other, you don't want to pass up good opportunities since you cannot guarantee they'll be there when you are made to leave.
If you can avoid dipping into that severance between jobs, more power to you. Otherwise you are better off bringing in that same amount of dough (or more) by finding/accepting a position before getting axed. The time off is nice, but job hunting is still time consuming and stressful.
yep good advice people stick around wasting their time just to get six months pay. not a good life. people spend more time on keeping their job than doing any real work.
Quit before they fire
This is a sinkhole.
Sinkhole? Maybe it is. OP, You won't quit before you are fired, so there is that.
There is a huge demand for workers with DSL skills.
Oh that smell …can’t you smell that smell…that smell of us around you! Stink!
No. I'm going to sit here twiddling my thumbs until they pay me to leave.
No. I plan on dying here.
I ain't leavin' till they pay me!
Quit? Never!!! Pay me and I will gladly leave.
Nice Try but it don't fly.
Come take them.
That's really stupid advice. Sounds like an exec wrote it. LOL
Deplorable. The lot of you. Repent!
Well isn't that what the company wants?
No Sir. I'll take that 1 1/2 years pay to leave AT&T, because I'm low on seniority. I'll pay off the mortgage and forget about AT&T.
Life is good.
yeah, ill give up unemployment or the remote possibility of 2 years severance... I'll get right on that chief
Yawn.
Stay for the pay! Severance check coming your way! Six month’s pay gets you a new car for your next job.
